My husband and I have recently decided to start trying for another baby. We have all boys so far and only 2 out of 3 live with us. One is 16 and plans to move back to his home state and stay with other family at 17.(Mar) We have a beautiful 2 yr old boy that lives with us and my 3 yr old from previous marriage is living with his father. So we dont want our 2 yr old to feel like he is an only child and we would love to have a girl this time around. We havent been avoiding pregnancy but not trying either for the past year and a half. Even with not using protection or anything...(plain regular sex) it hasnt happened yet. So would actaully tring make a difference?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for all of the advice. We missed our window this month and according to the chinnese gender calander our best chance for a girl is December, and it was accurate for both of my boys already! So thanks to everyone on all of the advice!

Yes it would make a difference. You need to find out the days that you are fertile and work around that. It might not happen quickly but you will know that you are trying when you are most fertile and there would be a better chance. Good Luck!!

I have been trying to concieve for about 8mts and my doctor put me on clomis 50mg. This is my third month on it and i still havent gotten pregnant. It is more stressful i believe with checking your temp in the morning then doing the ovulation urine test in the evenings. Counting the days!! I am kinda of tired my dr. Said if i dont get pregnant this last time he will refer me to an endocronlogist. We really want another child and i hope that we concieve soon. I was looking on the internet about an ov watch they said it is very good for those trying to concieve and have pocs i dont know but i am reseaching it.

this book helped me, and I do think trying does make a difference. The quickest way to get pregnant naturally is a book that explains everything in plain language so you can figure out what your best days are.

The most important thing to know is when you are ovulating. We too are trying to get pregnant, but with my husband gone 3 weeks and home 3 weeks (works on an off-shore oil rig) it's hard for us to get together at the right time. You can go to the March of Dimes web-site and check out their ovulation calculator. It is really helpful.

We are TTC #2. I also suggest charting using TCOYF like a previous poster said.
I have the clearblue ferility monitor.
http://www.clearblueeasy.com/our_products_fertility_monit...
Unlike the ovulation test stick the monitor detects the TWO key hormones for fertility..LH(luteinizing hormone) and Estrogen. This makes it more accurate then the OPK's and its also ALOT easier to read than the OPK's.

Everyone is different and not everyone ovulates on Cycle day 14..so yes it is important to know when your ovulating and to have sex during your peak.

Best of luck and lots of baby dust!

I know from experince if you stress out about getting pregnant it will take longer. you can use ovulation test sticks to predict when you are ovulating, but I warn you sex becomes a chore after awhile. Try to put getting pregnant at the back of your mind and it might help. I'd give it maybe 6 more months then go to your obgyn. He will run some simple tests on you and if they come back normal he will probably want to run some on your husband. Don't worry tooo much though if you both have had kids you are probably fine.

I don't understand the question. What is the difference between 'having unprotected sex' and 'trying'? Make like Avis: Try harder... :-)

Seriously, I would just increase the frequency of having sex, if there is no other, physical problem. And it is fun trying, even if it does not turn out. Your hubby should be all for it.

Ciao,
W.

Its proven that if you "try" to have a baby, it wont happen as fast as letting nature take its course. BUT if you want a girl, you should try and conceive in the right month. Go to www.babyzone.com and in the search bar, type "chinese lunar calendar" it will tell you which month you conceive what you will have for your age. The chart is 93% accurate. So, maybe, just maybe, you will luck up! Good luck!

Hi J.,
I have one son who is almost 2 years old. It took us 3 years to conceive him. I found that just "regular sex" as you called it didn't work. I finally had to use the ovulation test sticks to know when the right time was and we would try everyday for a week when I was ovulating. We did this on & off for a while because I would get really discouraged & stop using them. But when we finally did conceive, I had used the ovulation test. I think if you "try" every month at the right time, you will get there sooner. My doctor told me that even when it is the right time and you are doing everything right & everyone is healthy, you still only have a 25% chance of conceiving. It truly is a miracle. Good luck!

J.,

You could try acupuncture. It doesn't hurt in the least and worked a miracle for me.

I read in a natural health magazine that acupuncture can increase your chances of ovulation/fertility by up to 30%, and I thought wow, one-third, that's a lot, so I found a wonderful acupuncturist and naturopath, and bingo! got pregnant within one month after 9 years of not using any birth control at all!

The nice thing about this approach is that it is all-natural, so no unwanted side effects, etc. Very effective too! You can monitor when you are ovulating by getting these little plastic kits from Spain (about $20-30) where you lick a slide and watch for crystaline, "fern" patterns appearing. When you see them, you know it's time to get busy!

Best of luck!

Hi J.,

I highly recommend Toni Weschler's book, Taking Charge of Your Fertility and the companion software, Ovusoft. The book will teach you how to know when you are fertile and the software makes it so easy to track! I am 38 and my husband and I got pregnant on the first try using the method and now we have a beautiful baby girl! You can get the book (it comes with a trial version of the software) and the basal thermometer they recommend using on Amazon.com. Good luck!
