With both my pregnancies, (I had c-sections with both), I did NOT get that done.
I had been aware of the "issues" with tubals.... so I did not want it.
Not sure if I should have my tubes tied right after a vag delivery, 0r should I wait & have an outpatient procedure 6 weeks later?

Before you go through with this procedure please do some research on Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome.

I know there are many women who have tubal ligations and have no problems afterward. I suspect there are many more who DO have problems, but don't realize the connection.
.
When I saw this post, I was going to post exactly what Terra D. posted. Please research this procedure thoroughly and know the risks and ask yourself if these risks are worth living with. I am about to have a scheduled c-section in three months and my doctor has asked me if I want my tubes tied and time after time I have refused because I researched tubal and I have PMDD and I cannot afford to have more problems on top of that.
I think your husband should get a vasectomy. His is TRULY an in and out procedure... yours is major abdominal surgery with total anesthesia. You've had the children, let your man take the responsibility of not producing more.
I opted to wait - then never had them tied and choose another method. My "fear" - and I truly don't mean to pass it to you - is that if something happened just after birth to the baby, that would be it - no turning back. I guess what I am saying is if you are not "150%" sure you want them tied, then don't do it.
I went straight from the delivery room into surgery to have my tubes tied and have not regretted it at all. Since you are already there at the hospital, it would be just one visit w/o having to go back after you have a baby to also be concerned about.
I am a nurse working in the NICU and have seen many mom. If your having a C/S then definitely have it at time of delivery. While they are taking the baby out they can do the tubal. But if it is for not having more kids than your husband should to it. You have been having the pregnancies and deliveries well he should have the surgery. But if your having a tubal. There is pain afterwards not as bad a C/S but alot more gas than a C/S. Do you have someone helping you at time of delivery, if so then have it at the time of delivery. If not then you can wait when the baby has more of a set schedule. But you need to help at that time But doing the tubal has to be whether you want to deal with pain once at the time of delivery or two times. It is a personal decision.
I had a tubal with my 3rd and had no problems. I had a C-Section and they did it then.
EDIT* I take my post back. I read some of the pages posted in the post below and I have some of the problems. Proceed with tubal with caution.
Ask your doctor. I would think the sooner the better.
I agree with DM.
Can you think of any circumstances you would ever want another?
I also think " never say never". My son died when he was 17 day old. I never thought I would have another... I did though! Thank God!
I had my tubes tied after my second baby was born but during a C-section. I haven't had any issues with it at all. I looked at the "Post tubal ligation symptoms list" and I think a woman could have this whether they had their tubes tied or not. I personally don't think these symptoms have anything to do with the TL- we all can have a mood swing or PMS whether our tubes are tied or not. Many people's periods and symptoms change after having a baby. I personally love my TL and have had zero regrets. My kids are almost 5 and 7 now. Do what you feel is right for you. You have to live with your decision.

I had my tubes tied about 4 hours after delivery. My preference was to do all my "healing" in one shot. I have a feeling if I waited 6 weeks, I probably wouldn't have went back. I think if you are confident in your decision to have it done, to just do it after delivery. If hesitant, then wait the 6 weeks.
** I did forget to mention to research tubals before getting it done. I have had a few issues which made me wonder if I made the right decision. Though, I know quite a few people who did just great with it**
Hello, please please wait until 6 weeks later when all is for sure well. My friend had her tubes tied right away and 2 days later the baby died from an unforeseen heart condition. She tried to have it reversed but it didn't work and eventually split her family up because of the stress and grief. What is the hurry I always say.
Good luck, I hope all goes well.
