I tried every med. possible for both my kids and the only things that worked for me was to stay away from dairy products my first trimester and to suck on an icecube when i did feel sick.
I am 8 weeks pregnant and have been nauseous and vomiting for the last two weeks. I've tried Zophran, but got every side effect possible. Now to add to my troubles I have been having diarrhea everytime I can get something down. This has been happening for the last 2-3 days. I'm waiting for my doc. to call back but thought maybe some moms out there might have gone through or are going through what i am going through.

When I was pregnant two things worked for my nausea: peppermint tea and Preggie Pops. I found them at BabiesRUs and Motherhood stores.
What helped me was Gingerale from Trader Joes.

I can't help much but the most valuable advice I got was this: keep your water and prenatals by your bed. Take them before going to sleep and it reduces the nausea. I STILL take my vitamins this way.

I believe that almost every pregnant woman goes through the same trouble....I did feel nausea almost for 5 month, but did not dare to take anything against it. All I can advise is: think of your little one if you love him/her and don't take any medication. You never know the longterm side effects on your child. I had neighbors which calmed their kids with a medication which was supposed to be save. The longterm side effects were fatal. This was the best warning for me in life! Please, please stay away from anything that might be harmful for both of you.
oh my, I hear you. I was sick (throwing up sick) for 18 whole weeks. Miserable. The only thing that helped was making sure was stomach was FULL (which meant nibbling constantly). Also, the wrist bands that help motion sickness type nausea (you can buy them in a drug store). some people swore by accupuncture, but my accupuncturist is old school and wouldn't work on a pregnant woman.
I was sick for 20 weeks with my last pregnancy. My daughter is 6 weeks old now. I don't think there is anything on the market that works, I tried it all! Just know that this will pass.
Totally can relate. I was sick my entire pregancy except the last month. I didn't start gaining weight until I was about six months pregnant. Anyhow, for a long time I could only eat sourdough toast with butter, saltine crackers and I could only drink ginger ale, even water tasted disgusting. Every pregnancy is different (as you now know) and hopefully when you pass your first trimester, you will start to feel better.
I know exactly where you're coming from; I had so-called morning sickness 24/7 for the first half of pregnancy #1 and for both the first and THIRD trimester of pregnancy #2. Three things really helped me.
(1) Stash brand peppermint tea. Live on it. Stash is completely herbal, so no caffeine. And even just the smell of the tea calmed my stomach. It was a godsend. For my second pregnancy (during the hot spring) I made batches of it in the coffee pot and added ICE. Still was a godsend, even iced.)
(2) The ginger you get with sushi. I discovered how wonderful cucumber sushi rolls were (so no raw fish) and loaded on the ginger. I think you can get the ginger at the 99 Ranch markets (they have all kinds of Asian stuff). If you're around the Fullerton/Anaheim area, PM me and I'll let you know where one of the stores are. OR, just hit the Japanese restaurants and order the cucumber rolls.
(3) I used hypnosis rather than drugs for my deliveries (worked WONDERFULLY!) and my Doula had hypnosis CDs for nausia, too. She's in South County, but she has a website: http://www.hypnosis4birth.com. I recommend her HIGHLY.
Later I had a problem with heartburn, and chocolate silk (the individual serving size you can buy by the case-full cheap at Costco) worked to help that.

I was sick for the first three months of pregnancy with both children. I actually lost 10 pounds during that time. I was so frantic that I was going to harm my baby because I could not keep much in my tummy. My doctor assured me that I was not the first person to have morning sickness (or all day sickness as in my case) and that my baby will survive. For me even the thought of food, even crackers, made me vomit. I was miserable. My doctor also suggested to go off my pre-natal vitamins. I guess some people feel nauseous from them. That helped. Just make sure you are staying hydrated, keep your doctor updated about your condition, and know that it will pass.

It's been along time since my three pregnancies, but my girl friend turned me onto Papya Tablets for the nausea of pregnancy. Don't think I could have gotten through it without taking those. It is natural, and tastes good. Like a chewable vitamin. I do beleave you can get them at any vitamin store. P.S. I've always loved the name M.. I had a great aunt that we use to call that. But her real name was Thomasina. Go figure!

I was sick for 3 1/2 months with both my pregnancies. I found that the best solution is to get food into you before you even lift your head from the pillow. I would eat saltines, gatorade, cereal with milk, etc. while laying in bed. Also, I could never let myself get hungry. If I felt even the first bit of hunger, I would get sick. Nothing eve sounded good, and I had to force myself to eat, but it did work. You could also check into Emetrol. I think it is safe and that it worked.

I was so sick with my pregnancy, I know its horrible to feel so sick this way. That being said, there are several medicines available, some over the counter (wait for your dr. to tell you which one-I think it was called Emitrol?)and then there is prescription medicine. I was so sick I kept throwing it all up,finally Dr prescribed suppositories. That helped! Good luck....

I didn't have really bad nausia, maybe it's because I drink water like a fish, but my friend was noxious for the first 3 months. What she would do is have a 2-liter bottle of ginger ale and a package of saltine crackers next to her at all times. Because she couldn't even get out of bed first thing in the morning without vomiting, she would wake up and immediately chug some ginger ale first, then eat saltines until the feeling went away.
Remember to drink plenty of water (not juice or anything else) when you have bad nausia, because you can easily get dehydrated which will cause more nausia. Also, stay away from caffeine because caffinated drinks are diarhetics and the sodium in them can starve your body of water as well.
Ahhh M., I was sick with all four pregnancies. Hate to tell you this but the only thing that made the nausea go away for me and a lot of other women I've met is to eat. Try sunflower seeds, smoothies, bowls of cereal.... Also Sea Bands. You can buy them at your local drug store they stimulate an accupressure point that stops nausea. They work pretty well I wore them for two pregnancies.
Hopefully this is temporary for you you're still very early. Some of us had this for entire pregnancies!
Hi M., There is a lot of diarreah going around for some reason. Try pretzles and Gingerale, I think the heat may have a lot to do with it, I'm not surprized that you had side affects from medication, we on;y use natural cures for things in our home, because of the side affects everything has. I had major morning sickness AND migraines with both my pregnancies.
The ONLY thing that stopped it, completely, was acupuncture.
One session, for 1/2 hour, and it stopped completely.
My OB/GYN suggested it.
Good luck, I know it feel miserable. The pre-natal vitamins, if you are taking any, can also exacerbate morning sickness sometimes.

Hello M.. I feel for you, I really do. I am experiencing some severe nausea, and nothing really helps me either, except sleep, which I can't do all day. I actually asked the doctor about it yesterday, and she switched my prenatal vitamins, and said the heat might be a factor - something I had not thought of. I've heard that ginger works, but I can't attest to that because it did nothing for me. Also, plain saltine crackers are pretty much the only thing I can keep down, as well as yogurt. Sorry I can't offer you any advice other than that, and best of luck to you. Congrats, as well!!!

I never had the nausea....but the diaherra....yep! I had that for 4 days straight. I lived next to the toliet. It was aweful. THe only thing that the Dr would let me take was kapotate. It helped, but not that much.
Hang in there. It won't continue forever. I told my dr about the diaherra problems...and he said that something was going around (this was a few months ago), and when you are preggers, you are more suseptable.
I can relate! Had the same thing for several weeks. Finally realized that I had to eat really bland foods, cracker, bread with butter or peanut butter, which was a saving grace so I got some protein! Also found that I could eat potatoes and rice. My dr. suggested I take a B6 vitamin 3 times per day, it seemed to help. I also suggest taking probiotics to help get your digestive system back on track, and make sure your prenatals don't have a laxative in them, mine did and I made my dr. get me different one. Hope you start to feel better soon! It's no fun that's for sure.

I definitely agree on the ginger. I carried candied ginger in my work bag in the early days, and just ate a few anytime I was even a tiny bit queasy, and kept saltine crackers in my desk. Also, I am pretty sure one major thing that helped me keep nausea at bay was eating regular meals. You have to have something first thing in the morning, and then eat small meals all day long -- you won't have such a strong reaction when you do eat, as you'll be digesting slowly all day.
That said, the first trimester is the hardest, as I'm sure you already know. So hang in there, and congrats on number three!
Ginger really helped me. I kept a jar of powdered ginger next to my bed and sniffed it upon waking. My sister said chewing candied ginger worked for her. Don't worry, this too will pass, as will the diarrhea. Your body is adjusting. LL
