Twins? - Arlington,VA

Can anyone who has had twins share their early hcg levels with me? I took a home test 5 days before my missed period and it was positive. At 3 weeks 2 days my hcg was 161, followed by 357, 750 and then 2153 at 4 weeks 2 days. I see this is well above average, by about a week or so. A few people have asked me if I am having twins. I have my first ultrasound later this week so we will find out but I was curious as to others experiences. I have heard high numbers for singletons and lower numbers for twins.

So What Happened?

It's one baby - a week older than we had originally thought by LMP date - hence the high initial hcg levels

I tested positive four days before my missed period for both my twin pregnancy and singleton pregnancy. With my twins my hcg level didn't come back suggesting twins. The ultrasound at eight weeks did! The range for twins falls within the normal range for a singleton. Using the levels alone isn't an indicator. You might be feeling more fatigued (I was wondering why I was sooooooo tired), nauseous, or growing quickly (I truly thought I was eating way too much and packing on fat quicker than I should since I was in maternity pants at eight weeks for my first pregnancy). Anyway, if it is twins, congrats and good luck!

If I recall correctly at 15 days post embryo transfer (which would be 18 days post fertilization/conception in a traditional pregnancy) we were at 1600+ and two days later, 4000+

Good luck!

Go ask this question on twinstuff.com. It's a pretty typical question asked there... and there's a list of hcg numbers that other people have had. I think I remember reading that high hcg numbers *can* be an indicator of a multiple pregnancy but it's not a guarantee.

And the reason why I can't answer this question myself is that I didn't find out I was having twins until 20 weeks. Sorry!

my levels were extremely high, not sure exactly what, but the physician assistant asked if there were twins on the ultrasound. turns out there were, but one didn't develop. I have heard others say the numbers mean nothing. good luck.
