At what age is it no longer necessary to burp your baby? Bottle nipples say to move to the next one at three moths, is that when he reaches his three month birthday or when he enters his third month? Thanks

What can I do next?

I changed nipples a month later or I went by the way they where acting all kids are different I think the listed on the nipples are a guideline you don't have to be right on to the date. As far as burping when my kids ate table food and no longer took a bottle as a baby like I guess up until about 12 months old or so. It's kind of a live and learn situation with each child. My best wishes to you.

I changed my DD's nipple around 6 months from the level 1 to the 3 and it took her one feeding to adjust and she loves the new nipple. I know you've heard this already, but your bay will let you know! now I only burp her when she starts squirming, she works them out herself mostly (she is 7 mo now)...GL!

Hello!

I stopped burping my daughter about the time that when I would sit her up to do so, it would come out before I could pat her back, probably around 4 months.

Also, when a product says 3 months, that usually refers to a child's 4th month, when you would tell someone that he is 3 months old.

I tried to switch my daughter around 4 months, and she choked and sputtered. If you think it's time to switch, try it and watch your son's reaction. He'll tell you! :D

I never changed the nipples and I burped my babies way past 3 months. It just depends on the child, but I'll say 3 months is way too early.

There is no set time to stop burping a baby. It just depends on how much air the baby gets in his/her tummy and whether the baby can clear it out without help. You can go without burping a baby and be perfectly fine. However, if the baby starts fussing, you may need to try burping him/her. Honestly, during night feedings I didn't burp my babies much. It was hard enough to stay awake for the feeding, changing, etc. All five have turned out fine.
As for the second question, I don't think it matters.

As far as burping goes, you probably don't need to do it as much when they can start sitting up on their own as long as they can do it themselves. As far as nipple size changing and birthdays, it's just like in the books-a suggestion. At 3 months old, stage 2 nipples may be too fast for baby and formula/milk with choke him and run all out his mouth. Best thing to do it wathc for the signs he is ready for a faster paced nipple-cheeks seem to be sinking in deep when he sucks (having to suck harder does this), his eating slows down (can't get the food out as fast), he gets frustrated or fuss a few mins into a feeding (not getting the food fast enough).

Good luck!

As long as I was feeding them in a bottle or breast feeding and they couldn't walk or crawl, I burped them. The more movement they have, the easier it is for them to burp themselves. But if they are just laying there, the gas just sits in their stomachs. So burp until you see that they are able to naturally do it themselves without your help.

As for nipples...I agree with everyone else. When you notice that he is not getting enough food from his bottle, change it then.
