Does anyone know how to get those little black spots out of clothes? I think it is mildew spots, but not sure. It was in a plastic bag because grandma washed it out (god love her) and tied it shut in the bag...ugh. Anyway, I didn't catch it before I washed it, now my favorite baby dress is covered in spots. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

If it is white, use bleach. If it is a small area that is white use a q-tip to blot on some bleach.
Ammonia will work also, and it usually doens't bleach colors.
Lestoil works on getting a lot of grease spots out and it also works well on color bleeds.

If all else fails and you still havent' been able to get out the black spots, then you have nothing to lose, so just go ahead and try some bleach mixed with water, in a sink or dish pan of water and let the dress soak.
Actually a lot of kids clothes are usually color fast.

Go to www.tide.com and go to stain removal. It will ask you what kind of material, colored or white and what kind of stain...then it tells you how to treat it. Good luck. If it is white, I would let it sit in bleach for a while, then wash.

I had this exact thing happen - plastic bag and all. The dress was light blue with some flowers and had a lot of mildew spots. I put it in Oxi-clean overnight, washed it- no luck...eventually, I left the dress in the Oxi-clean for a better half or more of the week, took it out and washed it again. It worked! I never lost the color and it looked as good as new. Just remember not to dry it in the dryer until you are happy with it.

My grandma would rub lemon juice on the spots and then let the item dry in the sunlight outside. I don't know if it would work on colored fabrics or if it would react like bleach, but it works on whites. Maybe you could try it on a piece of old clothing first to see how it reacts.

You can try vinegar and lemon juice (partial it though) Lemon bleaches clothing if you're not careful. So like if you were to make a spray in a 8oz bottle, go with 1/2 cup of vinegar, 5tbsp. lemon juice (Can be freshly squeezed or the real lemon juice), and the rest water. Than spray the spot, let sit for a few minutes (or rub together) and wash. Good Luck!

A similar thing happened to me. We went swimming on the last morning of our vacation. We changed into regular clothes for the plane ride home and put the wet swimsuits in the bottom of the diaper bag. I think we discovered them a month later. You betcha - mildew everywhere. I used Oxyclean and soaked the swimsuits in it for probably a week. I also let them dry in the sun which helped to bleach it. My daughter and I were able to wear the swimsuits this summer. There is still the tiniest dark spot on mine, but otherwise is all came out. Good LUCK!!!!

I usually don't find this until after I dried it. So I usually have to pitch the item or put it in the rag bag. I quit using a hamper in the kids room all the clothes go right to the washer. I have closets that are damp, on the north side of the house. One time my daughter had mold growing on her wall under her bed. I used amonia, it worked well. It kills the mold.
