I like how a tried and true mom told me.

Get an inexpensive one you can hold the baby in one hand and fling it open with the other. you can go to the airport and all that and if it is lost, not pay an arm and a leg for a new one.

The only thing that I would see as a bonus is if you could somehow remove the material to wash it.

Mine from Sears lasted through my daughter & son with multiple flights between San Jose and San Diego and the park and all that.

I always had my nice one (sit and stand for two kids) for more involved trips where I would push them, but I even used the umbrella at Disneyland when my son was 18 months because he just needed to sit sometimes.

we have a maclaren techno and love it. we've traveled by plane with it a few times, and so i know it's very easy to fold with one hand while holding the baby with the other. the techno weighs about 16 or 17 pounds i think, which is lightweight enough for us, but i know they make even lighter versions for easier portability. it also reclines all the way, which i know most really light umbrella strollers don't. a huge benefit, i think.

Since you travel so much you will want a stroller that is a little more substantial than a traditional "umbrella" stroller. After MUCH consideration and tring out of strollers we chose the Peg Perego Pliko P3 and have LOVED it ever since day one. It has tons of useful features yet folds down into a compact umbrella shape. It doesn't take up your entire trunk and it can stand independently in a corner. We have taken ours cross country several times and it stills looks and works great. I highly recommend the McLaren Triumph stroller. I've had the same one for 3 1/2 years (2 kids so far) and it's still running strong. It is perfect for travelling (we've taken it to DC, London, Mexico, and many other places). It's perfect for airports actually because it can be easily folded up with one hand while the other holds the baby and has a shoulder sling to carry. It's our best "baby appliance" we own! One other great carrier I'll mention is the ERGO baby carrier--we really love that as well. Not a stroller, but so much better than a Bjorn and can hold up to a 3 year old too! Good luck.
