I know you cannot eliminate the dark circles completely, but I know most of my puffiness can be helped with a good eye cream. What do you use for under-eye puffiness? Does the indulge soothing eye gel from Mary Kay work? I have used their timewise eye firming cream in the past, and while I liked the consistency of it, I didn't notice any improvement at all in the puffiness/dark circle area.

What can I do next?

For instant results, a hemorrhoid cream works wonders. Tightens up the skin immediately. Sounds gross but does work.

St Yves used to also make an undereye cream which did work well. Don't know if it's still around...

First and foremost, ensure that your allergies are under control. Seasonal allergies will cause a LOT of the dark circles and puffiness.

If that doesn't cut it, THEN I'd go for an eye firming cream. I like Olay.

Clinique's All About Eyes moisturizes AND helps with puffiness and dark circles. About $30. They also have a new Dark Circle Corrector that really works. Won't get rid of them completely, but will significantly reduce them. Moisturizes too. I use it in the morning and sometimes I don't need to use my concealer after. Depends on the day. It has light reflectors in it to give an immediate brightening. $39.50. Using it once a day, it will last 6 months easily.

The Targeted Action Eye Revitalizer works better in the Mary Kay line. One of my friends uses it first thing in the morning and says by the time she finishes getting ready for work, there is substantial improvement in her dark circles and eliminates the puffiness. My hubby (yes my DH) used it for awhile too and I thought it made a difference but he didn't like using MK :) After all, the tube is pink!

The targeted Action Eye Revitalizer from Mary Kay helps with dark circles and puffiness (more dark circles). The new Volu-Firm Eye Renewal Cream is awesome for both and the applicator is made from the same metal boxers use to reduce swelling around their eyes. Soothing Eye Gel will not help with dark circles...really good for allergy eyes or tired eyes.

Sometimes you're genetically inclined toward dark circles under the eyes.
(In my family, by the time we're over fifty we tend to resemble raccoons.)
The skin is particularly thin and rather transparent - so you can see the blood filled tissue underneath it.
Some will cool the eyes in order to decrease the blood circulation there.
Cooled used tea bags, cucumber or potato slices, etc are good for this.
You can also try putting a paste of ground fenugreek and milk on the area below your eyes over night (wash it off in the morning) - do this for several weeks and it helps to lighten the area a bit.

@robin. Wrong. I have lived with dark circles all my life. I have very deep set eyes. nothing ever gets rid of them. but deborah is right, that is the only thing that lightens them up for me. if its just lack of sleep, this really works.
