Unemployment and Pregnancy

I have two separate questions that both deal with the same issue. Any advice would be helpful.
I found out over the weekend that I am newly pregnant. I am unemployed (lost my job back in December) and searching for work.
My first question is about insurance. I have a very generic insurance that does not cover anything related to pregnancy, birthing, etc... I am planning on applying for the MOMs program, but it sounds like it is doubtful that I will be accepted to that. When I had my first child three years ago, I had excellent insurance. Now, with no insurance I don't know what to do for this pregnancy. Any advice?
My second question is about my job search. Do I tell employers that I am pregnant while interviewing? I am obviously not showing yet, and don't know when I will start showing. I was in my fifth or sixth month before I started showing with my first.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Back in 2001 I was pregnant with my first and I had a job interview over the phone. I told them I was prego and I got the job, honestly I probably would not do that in this job market...but unless you feel you are not going to be able to do what they ask-I don't think they need to know...by the way I hear they are hiring at the airport

Hello,
I would not tell any future employer about the pending pregnancy. After you get the job and have the benefits for 90 days or what ever the limit it, then let them know or perhaps your tummy will let the cat out of the bag for you. As far as insurance, I can help you if you haven't found anything yet, please let me know. I am at your service.

I tell my son to treat every job interview as if he were going to work there forever...even though we all know he's not. Don't tell them you are pg and they are NOT allowed to ask!

Apply for every state health program you can, and search for free healthcare clinics...there are *some*. As far as the delivery costs, ect...don't worry about those. You can only pay what you can afford and most docs (even ours) will not take you to collections if you are making an effort to pay (Im talking even $5 a month...if we know you are trying, that's good enough). Be honest about your needs, we never take people in dire need to collections...it's not right...but make your needs known. Don't be ashamed! Isn't everybody in need right about now in some way or another??

Every Pregnant woman in Michigan is eligible for "Healthy Kids" insurance available through DHS.

No Don't tell potential employers that you are pregnant...not even when you are clearly showing. It is none of their business and has no bearing on your qualifications for the job.

Do you have insurance though your partner? If not, I'd apply for Medicaid or SCHIP ASAP. The state should cover your pregnancy if you don't have a job and are pregnant. I'd be really surprised if there wasn't a state or local program for women in your situation. If you meet the income requirements, then you would probably qualify for WIC as well. Good Luck!
