My daughter is turning three on August 18th. We plan of having a party with 15 to 20 people. I am looking for ideas for location – especially unique ideas. I am also open to hearing any ideas for a fun and successful party. Thanks in advance for your input.

Welcome K..
I live in Elk Grove and the park district has an array of parties to choose from. This will be especially helpful if a lot of the guests will be children.
Good Luck!

K.,

Hi, I have a great and unique idea for your daughter's birthday.

I work for Noahs Ark Animal Workshop

We are the original "traveling" animal stuffing company. But best of all the children "stuff-n-fluff" the animal of their choice themselves.

No more standing in line at the mall and watching the employee stuff and create their new found friend.

Please check out my website

www.noahsarkworkshop.com/jodigilbert18

I bring everything to you for the children to stuff and fluff a Noah's Ark collectible.

Hi K.,

It's great to see a father on Mama source! Welcome!

As for birthday parties... are there a lot of 3 year-olds coming, or is it mostly family? I have a son who is four and have had some successful parties, judging from parents feedback and the kids reaction to the event. My best advice is to not try and schedule too many things to do. I'm sure you've noticed that kids this age play near each other, but not necessarily with each other all that much. That said, try to limit the planned activities to cake and opening presents, they all love that! This is what I do... Have a back yard party and a buffet of foods/snacks that people can get to at any time during the party. Have a few different things going on at once for the kids to go between, ie. a bubble machine and bubble wands, sidewalk chalk or sidewalk paint, hopscotch, any easy craft sort of thing, a few outside toys, balls, frisbee, t-ball, sand box or swingset. Then let the kids run free. Enjoy your company and relax. Everyone else will follow your lead. If your back yard will not accomodate 20, take it to a small park where you can set up in one location and see the kids from that point at all times. This way, people won't be roaming in erratic zigzags trying to locate their children.

Hope this is helpful. :)

If your daughter likes clowns. I asked my guests to come dressed like clowns for my daughers birthday. They did and were very creative. The party pictures are adorable. Everyone had fun.

Hi K.-

It didn't say if all of the people will be 3 year olds or if it's a family type party. Th favorite parties my children have been to have been at the local gymnastics companies. They did obstacle courses, the trampoline, a little tumbling and then free time to run around and play. It was a blast!! It's good for kids of all ages. We, the parents, had a grat time too.

Good Luck!

Hi K.,
My daughter is also turning 3 soon. After reseaching dozens of party ideas we decided on Pump It Up Parties. There are several locations. It is a bit expensive but there is no prep work or clean up and there isn't a child that won't enjoy it. I have had great reviews from co-workers and friends that have had their kid's parties there.
You can look it up on line at

Good luck!

Little Gym usually manages parties well. I've also been to one at a kids' clothing shop in Wheaton where they rent out the upstairs for dress-up and tea parties. I'm sorry I cannot remember the name, but I'm sure their are websites where you could find it. Learning Curve has Thomas parties, but I don't know if your girls are into Thomas (mine is!). I know you can also rent out rooms at pottery painting places if the kids are pretty careful. There are also lots of park districts that rent out rooms for parties at their childcare areas, pools, spray grounds, and gymnastics centers. Good luck!

You should check out this website: www.kidspartyfun.com
If you select your state (Illinois) then they will give you a listing of places to have parties as well as entertainment and game rental information. If you select a party “theme” they will give you ideas of what you can do for that theme.
I think bouncy castles are always great fun, for all ages (including adult)! I believe you can hire out some churches at a low cost (even free, when you are a member) and they will normally allow Bouncy Castles on the property. I found www.aonesolution.com to be very helpful and to have good prices on rentals.
I hope this helps! Good Luck & HAPPY 3rd BIRTHDAY to the little princess!
