Has anyone heard of any negative aspects of joining Upromise? I keep getting emails about it from baby sites and my student loans.

Hi M.,
I haven't heard of any negatives about it, I have it for my two boys and myself. It doesn't add up real quickly unless you have other people working with you.

I belong to pay off my student loan, and have my son (3) signed up to save for his college. I also have two 529's accounts going for my 3 y/o. Upromise is GREAT-and the only draew back is the emails sent-they send often with many deals-some that don't apply to me needs.

I am actually a member of UPROMISE. I am sure I am not using it to its fullest potential yet, but I haven't had any problems with it. You will get mail from Upromise itself, but I don't think they sell the information as I haven't noticed an increase in spam mail from them at all.
The nice thing is they do have some good sale type deals and discounts.
I hope this helps. Have a wonderful day.

We have been members of Upromise for several years (maybe 6ish, I'm not sure). We have never had any negative aspects of joining and highly recommend it. Why pass up free money!!! It all adds up. We earn 1 cent for every gallon of gas we buy at Mobile. We enter our McDonald's gift certificates all the time. We always look to see if something we are buying has a website tied to Upromise, such as Lands End and then buy that way. Many restaurants are part of it -- punch in your zip code on their web site and see what ones near you are a part. It is so simple, you just use your credit card (that you have registered) and then the credit appears in your account. We have also turned in Whirlpool appliance purchases to get $ (but that was not just through our credit card). Family and friends may also tie thier credit cards to your account. My Mom has hers tied to us.

One thing to consider, however, is that unless you already have an education account to tie your Upromise account to, you may not want to set an education account up just for this as the fees for the education account through your broker may not ofset the amount you are earning on Upromise. But, you can simply keep your Upromise account and accoumulate the $ there (you just will not have it invested in anything) until such time as you on your own decide to do an education account (eg., 529 Plan). We didn't tie our Upromise account to an account until last year when we had other funds that we were also going to start investing into an education account.

I've been a member of Upromise for a while now and I love it...free money, what's beter. I've not had any problems with them ever. The only drawback I have is that our grocery stores around here don't participate in it, but I get money back every time I fill up my gas tank so I like that. I also really don't get many emails from them, usually just my once a month statement. Good luck.

We joined 2 years ago after my son was born & have had no problems. It's free money, so why not! We aren't saving a lot, but every little bit can help. You can even link it to go toward paying off your student loans. We have our son's 529 college savings plan through Upromise - it's the Nevada plan & at the time was one of the top 5 or 10 plans in the country - I'm not sure if it's still up there or not (I hope so). If you live in Kansas, you can still take a tax deduction for your contributions to the plan as well. Bottom line, you should join!

Don't hesitate get involved in Upromise. It is a wonderful program that works with your 529 college fund. You will have to take a few minutes to register your cards so that they know when you've made a purchase, but once you've done that, you can just shop as usual (primarily through the internet) and you get free money into your 529. You can also have your family and friends register for your child and you can get free money from their purchases. You can't beat FREE! Also, presuming that you know that by setting up your 529 in your home state makes you eligible for a tax reduction come April 15th.

It's just another great way to save for college without thinking about it. We joined it when my son was born 8 years ago and haven't had any problems.

We've been Upromise members for years. Money just dribbles into your account depending on what you buy and how you buy it. You have to set up a 529 account, which is pretty easy, and then link the 529 account to the Upromise account. If you don't do that your money still compiles, but doesn't ever get transferred. It's really easy to set up. Unless you are a big spender, use your linked debit/credit cards a lot, or actively purchase things you know are connected to Upromise, don't count on getting a ton of money. The way it works best is to set up automatic deposits from your bank account into your 529 account through Upromise, then your purchase rewards are just gravy. I have a Upromise Citibank credit card, and that's where most of my "free" money comes from. Every purchase means a small percentage goes into my Upromise account. Of course, using a credit card in the first place is pretty lame not financially savvy! And they just raised my interest rate to 22% for no reason. I wrote them and told them they were just greedy and hurting an already bad economy and they should be ashamed of themselves. They just sent me a letter lowering my rate to 10%! The best part about Upromise is that you can have family members (like grandma) register their credit and debit cards so their purchases put money in your child's college fund.

I recommend it also- the big thing if you have it to remember is anything you may order on line... go through Upromise's website to connect to the purchasing website. You can pretty much connect to any store through their website! Also, check on the website what restaurants around you participate! And my other big gain is ordering my pics through Kodakgallery.com but again found through Upromises account. I hope this will make sense to you, if not feel free to message me.
Take care!

I have belonged for years. They are a very reputable company. The trick is to get your family members to oontribute, too. Money will add up faster that way.

We belong to both Upromise and Babymint, and have both affinity credit cards. We've earned over $1,300 so far. Babymint was really slow to credit our account in the beginning, but they appear to have the kinks worked out. No complaints about either one.
