Urinary Problems After Pregnancy

My son is now 3 years old, but when he was born, they did not do an episiotamy(sp)so I tore quite a bit. It took the doctor over an hour to sew me back up. Since then, it seems I cannot do ANYTHING without leaking urine. If I walk down steps, I leak. If I need to go to the restroom soon, I will leak just from walking. I have dealt with this for over 3 years now and it is not getting any better. We recently got a trampoline and my son wanted me to jump with him. I tried wearing a pad, but the leaking was so bad that the pad was completely soaked within 2 minutes of bouncing. I want to be able to play with my son. Are there any other moms out there that have dealt with this to this degree and have had success somehow in fixing it?

What can I do next?

I have this problem, too, just as bad as you in fact. I have had 3 kids, and by the third it had gotten so bad that I wet myself sometimes if I sneezed. And jumping on a trampoline! Wow! There is a surgery they can do that will fix it, but they won't do it unless you are not going to have anymore children, because apparently childbirth tears the stiches and makes the surgery useless. Seeing as how you only have one child, you probably aren't ready to stop having children. I'm going to graduate from college in December, and as soon as I go to work and get health insurance, the FIRST thing on my list is the surgery (my tubes are tied). There is also medication that is supposed to help with incontinence. Ask your doctor. I have no insurance right now, so I just live with it. If I'm going somewhere and going to have to do a lot of walking, or if I'm sick, I just try and remember pads and a change of pants. My nickname with my brother is potty pants for christ sake (I threw up on a trip one time and lost complete control). Good luck to you.

I would go to my doctor and have it checked out.

There is a problem that can occur when you have a baby, a dropped bladder. I am not sure if that is the proper name for, I know there is a surgery that can be performed. You should ask your Dr. I have it slightly not as bad as you but if i were you i would see a dr and see what your options are. I hope this helps.

I am a registered nurse that works labor and delivery. From what I read I think that you need to consult your ob/gyn about this. I can also tell you that this probably has nothing to do with the tearing of your perineal area. It has to do with how the bladder was stretched during delivery and your muscle to urinate. I have always done the kegel exercises. That is when you stop and start the stream when you urinate.
