Does anyone have a suggestion for getting the smell of urine out of blankets? We have had an occassional diaper leak and I washed the blankets but they still smell a bit like urine. Any suggestions

What can I do next?

My daughters have had accidents on my bed and I spray it with a vinegar and water mixture and that seems to work great...plus vinegar is not toxic either.

J.,
If you put a cup of baking soda in with your detergent when washing the items, you should be rid of the smell.

Hi J.,
I use 20 Mule Team Borax whenever I need a laundry "booster" for odors, stains, etc. It's a powder you can find in the laundry section and it works wonders. Good luck. R.

It may sound odd, but try Nature's Miracle or one of the others for getting cat urine or dog urine smell out of the rug. You can get it in a pet store and Walmart should have it. My father was incontinent near the end and that worked.

Hello J.. I have found that using ammonia in addition to detergent in the washer, plus Downey, works miracles. The only problem I've had with it recently is I've bought a new front loading washer and noticed some florescent yellow spots on some clothes. I don't think they were there before, but I can't be sure. When I had a top loading washer, I would fill the tub up with water, or rather as it was filling up, add the detergent, then the ammonia, then the clothes and it worked perfectly. I don't know if the two (the spots and ammonia use) are related, but I told myself the next time I need to use it, I would add it to the detergent compartment along WITH the detergent and see how that works. I don't know which type of washer you use, which is why I posted comments about both. By the way, if you are worried about the horrible smell of ammonia in the clothes after the wash, there is absolutely none, thankfully! You don't even need the Downey if you don't normally use it (I prefer to for the static cling protection), the clothes still come out smelling fresh and clean, like your laundry detergent, if it has a scent. Good luck!!
