Every pregnancy is different. My advice to you is to lay off of any extra salt and don't buy any canned goods. They are loaded with sodium.
Is it normal to gain this much weight so early in the pregnancy? I am a mother of a 1 yr old. I didn't start showing until I was 4 months w/my daughter. I don't have any morning sickness and my diet hasn't changed.

Sorry, but the second time around everything seems to happen a little faster. I started wearing my maternity clothes way early.

If you aren't eating like crazy and you still have gained that much, I wouldn't worry. I gained 45 lbs with my son, and much of it right at first - about the same as you. I had no problems and I have lost it all already. And since it is your second, your body already knows what to do.
Of course I'm not a doctor, but I hope that helps a little!
With my 3rd I started gaining before I even found out I was pregnant. I think you're just fine, your body is probably just preparing for the morning sickness. {Kidding, hopefully}
First of all- Congrats on the pregnancy!
I had gained 10 lbs at 8 weeks & those who knew me said I was already showing that point with my son. After skimming through some of the other responses, I'm definitely curious to see how that's gonna go the 2nd time around (we're trying now...)
Well I must say B. that it is unusual because normally one has morning sickness in early pregnancy and one's weight actually can drop a little to begin with!
You seem to be going in the opposite direction, which is strange. Perhaps it has nothing to do with the pregnancy - are you sure you did not gain this weight before you realised you were pregnant?
Alternately, you could be retaining water so perhaps you should give your doctor a call and ask him if you should be concerned. After all you have a long way to go yet and it wouldn't be great to continue to gain weight like this...!
It has NOTHING to do with you and how you have been eating. Your body is just getting ready quickly this time. I did the same thing with my boys. Even before finding out or right after, I gained weight quickly but it will balance off in the end. You might gain more right now and then not gain any for a while. But don't feel bad if you are like me and just gain throughout! Have fun with it!
Yeah, everyone I know says you start showing sooner after your first pregnancy. Your body recognizes what's going on and just shoots into gear!
second child you always start showing right away.
It could be water retention/swelling. I felt like I started showing w/in 2 months with my 2nd. My doctor swore it was swelling. I didn't end up gaining any more with her than with my 1st. Congrats!
I am at the end of my second pregnancy. With both I gained about 10lbs before I even realized I was pregnant. With this one, I had been working out, watching diet and could not figure out why I was gaining since pregnany test came back negative I went to the doctor to have thyroid check and turns out I was pregnant. My weight gain tapered off pretty quickily after that, I am now 36 weeks and have only gained 10lbs sice finding out. Sounds like you are in the same boat as me and just tend to gain it early on, don't worry it will even out.
i'm preggs with my second right now, i never thought i would get big so fast, but i did, i think our bodies are prepared for it more the second time around and things happen faster, i wouldn't worry.
Could you be further along than you may think? There is also the possibility that you have more than one in the oven...How exciting! Dont worry, just drink plenty of water and do a little exercise to get you heart rate going...also eat several times a day in small amount and you will stay full and keep your metabolism strong...good luck
Hi,
I am a senior midwife student. It is not uncommon to gain quicker than with the first pregnancy. Don't fret over how much you gain. Concentrate on eating healthy. You need to eat 80 grams of protein a day. Drink plenty of water, and salt your food to taste. You should not decrease your sodium intake. Your body needs sodium to help build your blood supply and it helps to pull extra water out of your tissue. Also, if you have a craving for sugar that is usually the body actually needing protein. Protein intake is the best way to build your blood supply, support your liver and head off complications such as pre-eclampsia.
Take Care,
Lisa
Hi B., I am almost 9 weeks pregnant w/ my 2nd and I have already gained 10 lbs as well. Everyone tells me including my doctor that its normal to gain faster w/ the second one. Also, I haven't changed my diet-if anything I'm eating less b/c I am so nauseaus-but still have yet to throw up. Good luck w/ your pregnancy-its normal. But if you are realy concerned ask ur dr.
I gained all my weight up until my 5th month then they discovered I had Gestestional (sp) diabetes. Once I was diagnosed I changed my diet and didn't gain a pound. Do not get me wrong I gained 35 pounds the entire pg. Talk to your doc if you have any concerns. Congrats!
With some people you gain some and then you start to lose it again. I did this with all three of my children.
If you are truely worried then go to the doctor you are the only one that knows your body.
Hi, First of all congratulations. Hope you have a great pregnancy and delivery.
Anyway, considering its only been a year since you had a baby you will be most likely to gain weight faster than the last. You do need to watch what you eat though. Try to eat healthy.
Hope this helps and best wishes to you and your family.
