Using Coffee Grinds for a Healthy Lawn

I use the forgotten coffee in the pot mixed with a little more water once a week to water my indoor plants. It keeps them vibrant and they grow better.

Grounds are good for roses, but I don't know about grass.

Try getting a book by Jerry Baker from your library. I remember seeing him on a PBS pledge special years ago where he concocted an organic lawn fertilizer. I remember it had beer in it but I can not remember what else for the life of me. I see in our library one of his books is titled "All-American Lawns - 1776 super solutions to grow, repair and maintain the best lawns in the land!" from 2005.

I wouldn't do anything or say anything about the neighbor's "weeds." What one person considers weeds, might be flowers to another. You want to keep peace with your neighbor. There's nothing worse than getting a neighbor upset, then having them watch every move you make to report you. Neighbors can get pretty nasty and some neighbors do not want your children or pets on their property. Just work with your lawn. I saw some kind of grass seed that Scott's puts out for hard to grow bare patches. You might want to try out different kinds of grass. Be sure to rake the soil first before seeding the lawn. When putting grass seed down, you'll need to cover it with hay so the birds can't eat the seed before the grass has a chance to grow. Also when you cut the lawn, do not cut it too short or it will get "sunburn" and die. Don't cut it while it's wet either, because that's h*** o* the lawn mower.

Coffee grinds are for acid-loving plants. What greens up a lawn is high nitrogen and watering. But be careful not to over nitrogen the yard or over water, both cause the roots to be shallow, allowing your grass to die easily. It's a delicate balance. Good luck!!

The Gerry Baker books are great!!! My mom has the one with all the natural bug repellants, etc. It is a GREAT book.
I am not sure about lawns, but I toss coffee grounds into my planters and all of my potted flowering plants. You can always put in a small curb or low fence with vines or something along the edge to deter your neighbors beloved weed patch. LOL We have one of those neighbors, too.

Instead of putting up with the weeds contact your local health department. Some weeds are considered noxious and are baned by cities. They can order them to get rid of the weeds or the city will send city employees to do it for them and charge them for doing it.

I have a neighbor who wasn't taking out the weeds by my yard and I had to spray for weeds and just sprayed his yard too. It keesps them from spreading into my yard. Round-up Plus works great. I tried everything else from pouring vinegar or boiling water to Spectra-cide to digging them out. But if the neighbors won't get rid of their weeds there isn't much else you can do.

Herbicides are safe after a day or so or after a rain.

I add the coffee grounds to my compost to balance it. As someone said they are high acid so they would actually hurt your lawn. You can buy compost, which can be spread on the lawn, or you can make it yourself. I have a tumbler but really something as simple as cutting the bottom out of an old trash can can work.
