My husband had it done 5 years ago!!! It is great... no more worries and he was fine afterwards.. He layed around the house for a few days with a bag of frozen peas on him and he was good to go... no complications and the loven is all good
My husband is considering having a vasectomy in the near future. Have any of your husbands or significant others had one and experienced post-op complications? I've heard about women becoming pregnant afterwards, but has anyone experienced anything worse than that? Thank you in advance!

My husband volunteered to have a vasectomy after my third miscarriage. He had a few days of discomfort, but has been fine ever since. And it's been almost five years, with no pregnancies. I believe that is a statistically low possibility.
WARNING: TALK ABOUT MY PRIVATE PARTS
As a father who had one, I can say that I have no complications. Everything is working fine, and while it was sore and tender for awhile afterwards (with 4.5 year old twins, they always seem to head right for that area :-) ) but really the shaving was more annoying then anything else.
My surgery was outpatient, and didn't hurt too much. The local anesthetic was a series of shots right into the scrotum, which didn't really HURT, but I was sweating a bit. Overall it wasn't too bad, awake the whole time. The do cut you open, (I think mine was laser, like the post below) and at the end cauterize it closed, so that's not so much fun. BUT overall, the pain was pretty minimal, and no complications as far as urinating, orgasms, or erections. Sorry, had to spell it out.
Just take your time getting back to a normal sex life. Tell your man he may want to take care of it the FIRST time he tries to make it all work, as it's a bit sensitive, and I can say it was a little stressful, and there were some weird sensations.
PM me if you need more info or have specific questions. My apologies ladies, if any of this was too graphic.
My husband had one after our son was born. Erik is 5 now and he never had any complications at all. He said it was very easy. He was sore for a couple days and went back to work after 2 days and was on lighter duty but that was all. They just did not want him to lift anything heavy or do to much walking since h e is a security guard. he was actually out raking or something two days after he had it, and he felt pretty good.

My hubby had it done 4 months after our youngest (10 yrs) was born. He swelled up quite a bit after the procedure but he sat on the sofa for a few days with the bag of frozen peas. I think because men are such babies they tend milk it when they are "sick". LOL He was tender for about a week after ~ but let me tell ya ~ sex has been gtreat ~ it's nice not to have to prepare to have sex ~ you just do it! LOL
Good Luck!
My husband had his about 9 years ago. There hasn't been any complications.
My hubby had it done about 3 yrs ago....no complications, heal time was great...sex life great...no complaints here. But I would definately recommend being tested after procedure. Which the Dr. will also recommend.
Hope this helps!
~Blessings~
My husband had no problems with his vasectomy. He said it was painless during the procedure (about 20 minutes) and just a bit sore afterwards. Tell your husband to "just do it".
After a "grace period" they will test a sample from your husband to ensure there are no more swimmers. No pregnancy risk if this post-op check is done.
Good luck, and enjoy!
My father had a vasecetomy in the 70's and never experienced any problems. My hubby is also considering the procedure after we are sure we don't want anymore children. He figures it would be easier on him than me.
My husband had his vasectomy 4 years ago 2 months after our 5th child was born. he has had no problem with it. His healing time was very quick and all is good.
Hey,
My hubby had his done in the morning and went back to work right after....lol I know, crazy man. He was a little sore, had the frozen peas going on...lol But he had no other complications. And, so far, no new babies either. I feel that it is a lot easier for the man to "take care" of things, than for us women. Good luck, hope this helps.

My husband had a vasectomy after our second child. The procedure was fairly simple (his statement, not mine!) and the recovery was better than he imagined. He did have problems with his stitches because he is a man and thinks that playing softball and not listening to the doctor is ok. A little neosporin and frozen peas and he healed in no time. He had to take "samples" back to the doctor two or three times afterwards to make sure that everything is clear. Other than that, protection is a must for the first month or so. It has be four years now and everything is great!
My husband had his V several months ago. It was an outpatient procedure done in Chicago (also a Tinley Park location as well). He got a valium and a cashmire throw and was done in 20 minutes - all the while listening to classical music (I wish my paps were half as fun). Seriously, he had some discomfort for a day or two. No need for icing (frozen pees or boo boo buddies). We had fun keeping track of how many times we had sex before he got tested the first time (we had to have done it 25 times). A month or so ago he got the "all clear". We know several guys at my husband's job that got it done - they all have been referring each other. No new oops babies. Good luck!
My husband had the procedure about seven years ago during a previous relationship and now he suffers from physical complications as a result. He said he hasn't been able to perform the same physically since the procedure. I'm not certain how common something like this is but it happened to him. Goodluck.
The worst I heard of was someone how continues to get boils near the surgery area. He never had them before the surgery. The doctor who lances them is a purist and does not give local pain killers. She lances, drains them, packs them and sends him on his way.
I am sure that scares can be sensitive. I know that a doctor cut the wrong thing and the guy did not survive. That was a Navy doctor booboo. He mistook the main artery for a vasdefferan. I still cannot figure that one out. I have know many people who have had it done with no ill side affects.
I know it takes the fear away making sex more relaxing. I think it could make your life together happier and more relaxed. It did improve several marriages that I know of.
hthe hubby has to make sure and do the follow up appts. with specimen. Pregnancy should not be a factor.
HI T.,
My husband had one 5 yrs ago he was sore for 2/3 days, and that was it. He never had any problems afterwards. Good luck.
Hi T.,
I'm sure there are plenty of good doctors out there who do this operation correctly. I would definitely do some thorough research and get a personal reference if you can though. I had a co-worker who had not one but TWO children after his vasectomy - bringing his tally of children to seven! After the 7th his wife finally got her tubes tied.
Good luck,
MC
For awhile my husband said his Orgasms were not as good and it probably took him at least a year were he felt that got better. I am not sure if he just made himself think that way because the rest of my friends husbands said they were fine. I only know one person who was in a lot of pain- because he went golfing the next day and you really need to rest the entire weekend.
My hubby also went to the http://www.vasectomyclinics.com/sitemap.htm. Mines kind of a whiner sometimes but he was just saying it to make me feel guilty. He had no problems afterward, we went out to dinner after it was done. There has been no complications is been about a year and a half.
You must use protection for 6 months post operation to avoid pregnancy. I have had patients get pregnant post operation because they were not made aware.
My husband had one two years ago. No complications whatsoever. He went in on a Friday and feeling pretty much back to normal by Monday!
My husband had his 3 months after our son was born. He had it on a Friday and was ok by Monday. He sat on the couch for 2 1/2 days with peas and extra strength Tylenol. The doctor made sure we understood not to have unprotected sex until he made the semen sample and to make sure the little wigglers were no more. It was about the 6th week and the 8th week when we were sure they were completely gone. It's much better for the guy to go thru this than to have a hysterectomy. Men are only out for a couple of days, we are out for 6 or more weeks!! Good luck!!
My husband had it done 3 months after my daughter was born. He was a little tender but he was fine. The next day he even did a few things around the house. Yes you can get pregnant after. You need protection until the doctor says your clear. It could take a few months.
My husband had one about 3 years ago, just after our youngest child was born. He had no complications and was back to normal in about 3 days. We have had no more children and he has had no problems relating to the vasectomy. Our doctor tolds us that if the procedure was done correctly by a surgeon who was skilled, we would not have to worry about the chance of becoming pregnant again.
No problems with my husband's...just give him a frozen bag of peas for a day or two. The only women that I know who have gotten pregnant after their husbands had one are the one's whose husbands didn't get re-tested after the procedure. Make sure he does that!

My husband and I did a lot of research on this last year and decided to go with the no scalpel vasectomy technique. It really was painless with no ice or meds needed and he returned to work the next morning after having had the quick procedure done in office at 4 the afternoon prior. He'd highly recommend it! The physician he went to has several offices. Here's the website - Good luck!
Hi T. - my husband did this for me about 25 years ago, and I was so grateful - we have 2 children who were only 12 months apart, and that's all we wanted. He was in considerable discomfort for about 24 hours, but healed quickly, and the best side effect is that after over 30 years of marriage, we still have a great sex life. I had all the responsibility for birth control the first 6 years of our marriage, and had terrible problems with heavy periods, cramps, mood swings etc. After his vasectomy, I no longer needed anything, which made me a much nicer person to live with. If he's willing to do this for you, he's a great guy! N.
My husband had it done many years ago, before I even knew him. He had some pain afterward which was uncomfortable but not terrible. The procedure itself was simple. Very few men actually have complications afterward, so it's really not that bad of a procedure to go through. Absolutely take precautions and make sure tests are done afterward because my cousin got pregnant with #4 after her husband's vasectomy - he did not get tested like he was supposed to!
My husband and I decided to use the Mirena IUD as our form of birth control. It is just as effective (99.9%) as getting a vasectomy or getting your tubes tied without the permanence. There are very little side effects. I haven't felt any yet. I just got it done last week. It's an in office procedure (10 minutes) and hurt very little. It's effective for 5 years and then you just get the old removed and new one put in.If you change your mind and want to get pregnant, you can have it removed and can get pregnant right away or within a year. I recommend you check out their website http://www.mirena-us.com/index.jsp, for more details about what it is, how it works, and the risks. Good Luck!
Dear Tssha,
My husband has not had it done, so I don't have direct experience. But, I'll share these two stories about friends we have. We know one couple that had 3 kids, thought they were done, got the vasectomy. Then, I'm not sure exactly what happened, but the seemed to feel a huge let-down that they were done having children. The wife told me that it really changed their sex life. So, they had the big neurosurgery reattachment and now they have a fourth kid. And, my neighbor's brother had it done, and he had a terrible experience. Apparently, when he was asked about allergies during the pre-op questionaire, he thought they only meant drug allergies, so he neglected to mention that he was allergic to cats. They used cat gut for the stitches. (I thought they stopped using this about 25 years ago, guess I was wrong.) He had a severe reaction which included dramatic swelling. The doctor had to rip open the incision with no anesthesia. It was quite a horror story. So, make sure there's no cat gut involved.
