Hi,
I live in the Keller area and am interested in getting recommendations from you on Supportive caregivers to deliver my second child. I understand the risks etc in relation to attempting a VBAC so please dont go into that. I moved just before the birth on my son and unfortunatley the caregivers I chose where far from ideal. So if you have been delivered by, or worked with a dr or midwife who will actively support a VBAC please let me know. I delivered at Balyor Grapevine but do not mind travelling for the right carer. Lastly i dont really like a lot of intervention so a carer who is flexible would be appreciated.

Thank you so much

M.

I delivered at the Allen Birth center in Allen and it was fantastic. The midwives there are awesome and so supportive. They will intervene as little or much as you want. It was well worth the hike for me. We had an awesome waterbirth. Their website is www.allenbirthing center.com Let me know if you need any more info

Get hold of my midwife, Jean Sala, CNM. Her website with contact information is http://www.inannabirth.com/index.html

She was excellent during my last pregnancy and when I had complications that she could not handle, she said she would do a VBAC for me next time, and even visited me when I had my c-section. She is a wonderful midwife and has a beautiful birth center in Denton. The drive from Keller is not bad at all.

Hey Mertees
I am a local doula and finding good care providers is my one of my most common requests!! Quick update on VBAC care providers in the DFW area…there are not a ton of them unfortunately!! BUT there are a few that are strong supporters of it –and I highly recommend them for the mom who is really serious about striving for her VBAC.
Of course as others have mentioned—using a midwife is always an optimal choice for a VBAC because they don’t even bat an eye at it—they feel it’s a normal thing and not out of the ordinary!! There are midwives who do VBACS at birth centers and for Home births. There are not many who do them in the hospitals not because they don’t want to—but because hospital regulations don’t encourage it or really want it—and when they work for a hospital they have to abide by hospital rules!

Now all that said—the best and most recommend hospital to have a VBAC in the DFW area is Baylor Downtown. Personally I think this is the best hospital to have a baby at in any situation—they are very natural birth friendly, are not pushy about interventions and babies rooming-in is standard policy!!

Two health care providers that I can recommend are :
Audrey Graham, MD
Women to Women Health Associates
###-###-####

Susan Akins, CNM
Women's Health Alliance
###-###-####

I also hear that a Dr Sharon Mulvehill at St Paul ( will also do VBACS and is pretty low intervention---I just don’t that as personally as I know about the other two I mentioned. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions!

A little about me: Local area doula and admin. Dir. at the American Pregnancy Association-- Pretty much everything I do revolves around pregnancy! My husband and I are expecting our first in May--right now we only have furry kids...3 of them!

I unfortunately also had to have an unplanned C-section with my first child. My OB explained that she would consider doing a VBAC with my next child and explained that she had one with her 2nd child. Her name is Carolyn Quist, DO ###-###-####). She is located near downtown Fort Worth. I am not sure if she supports VBACs in all cases but I know we did discuss it previously.

There is an actual birthing center here in the metroplex, but I just can't remember the name of it. They are not a hospital, only midwives, but are affiliated with a hospital that is just seconds away. I don't know anything about their procedures with VBAC, but I do have af riend who delivered two children there and absolutely loved it. You didn't mention anything about an epidural, although you did say limited intervention. Anyway, the birthing center does not have an epidural option.

Hi Mertees,

I am a Bradley childbirth teacher and asked around about supportive careproviders in your area and this is what I found out...There is a midwife named Donna who is 25 minutes from Keller, ###-###-####. Then a midwife in Keller named Margie Spence. She is a strong believer and a great midwife. Her number is ###-###-####. I hope you have a wonderful pregnancy and a beautiful VBAC!

I don't have any recomendations for you but have you thouhgt of using a midwife? They're much more intune with personal needs/wants and helping you through with your birth plan.
