I'm looking for an OBGYN or midwife in Los Angeles County that will do a VBAC and is informed about breastfeeding. I am currently breastfeeding and would like more children a couple years from now, and would like to try a VBAC. I live in the San Fernando Valley but would travel through LA county. Thanks!

I went to the UCLA midwives for my second. I still ended up having a C-section as my water broke early (totally unexpected as my first was late). That said, I would totally recommend them. It was a long haul for the appointments, but they were super supportive and relaxed in my prenatal care. Even when my water broke early and I was faced with a lot of medical interventions I wasn't planning on they would sit with me in the hospital and answer questions and help me figure out what questions to ask the various specialists involved in my treatment. They became great advocates for me. Best of luck, M.

Dr. Bates! She's fantastic and had a VBAC herself (she also breastfed). ###-###-####

She doesn't take insurance, but her partner does. You have to pay her a flat fee (around $5000), but her office bills insurance for all lab and hospital services.

She was well worth the cost.

Her partner Dr. Dwight is also wonderful and I would imagine that he supports breastfeeding and VBAC as well.

I belong to Kaiser so I used them. My first son was born by cesearean. My next two were VBAC and no complications at all. However, with my second son, there were so many people in the delivery room in case something were to happen like a ruptured uterus and the inability to stop bleeding. But I say go for it. If you were stitched up properly after your first child, then there should be no problems.

Would you consider delivering at UCLA Medical Center with the midwives there? I had a friend who recently had a VBAC there and she and her husband were completely overjoyed with their entire experience. I also know that she breastfeeds her newborn, too.The facility as well as the doctor/midwife you choose is very important to consider carefully. God bless you!
