We are planning a vacation to this area this coming June. Our children will be 2&1/2 and 4 yo. Any suggestions in lodging, activities, restaurants? Is this area family friendly? TIA

What can I do next?

I LOVE Va beach! we go there every June/July for about a week. We have been to the aquarium which is nice. It's not a full day, but my kids loved it. Last summer we went to ocean breeze water park and it's a nice smaller water park. They do have bigger slides, but they also have a nice kiddie area. Of course the beach :) I grew up in CA where the beaches are awesome so for me, it's just not the same, but I love and miss the beach so much that I still have fun and swim in the water and just love it!

Yes, the area is very family friendly. I personally would avoid staying at the Oceanfront with little ones. It's party central in the summer. I suggest renting a house/condo in Sandbridge. It is great, but expensive. Just try to be near the actual beach. Much more family oriented.

However, definitely do the 2nd Street park with the kiddos and rent a family bike to ride up and down the 2.5 mile boardwalk.

Activities: Aquarium, Ocean Breeze Water Park (good area for your little ones). If you're up for venturing a little further, take the small ferry from Waterside in Norfolk to the Children's Museum in Portsmouth (eat lunch at Roger Brown's). Also, the Norfolk zoo is fun too. Norfolk Botanical Garden's has a fantastic children's sprinkler area (called WOW).

I live here, so feel free to private message me for more information. Enjoy your vacation!!!

I suggest looking up trip advisor for some advice on where to eat, etc.
I personally it not as nice as often billed. But we have stayed in the area and had a nice vacation. The beach and water is fairly warm, just don;t expect the quality of southern South Carolina and Florida.
It may be worth a day to check out Williamsburg and Maybe even nearby Busch Gardens

Sandbridge is pretty quiet.
It's mostly vacation rental houses and the beach is lovely.
Since we live in the area, when we want time at the beach we usually go to Sandbridge.
Virginia beach has a 5 mile long boardwalk/bike path, tons of stores/restaurants and a bus/trolly which is great to go up and down the whole length if/when the kids get too tired to walk.
The southern end of the strip can get rowdy at least at night.
I prefer staying at the northern end at the Holiday Inn (use to be the Sunspree Holiday Inn) - they have some great pools (indoor and outdoor) and a 7-11 right across the street.
We'd start the day by walking a few blocks down to Pocahontas Pancakes and have a good big breakfast, then walk back via the beach, get what ever we needed from the room and spend several hours with the sand and surf.
The aquarium's great!
