I am going through my kids toys and want to give them to someone who could use them. I dont want them going to a thrift store, any suggestions? They are not brand new, but in very good condition! I live in Long Beach

What can I do next?

I use Freecycle.org to get rid of everything that we don't need or want anymore. Keeps it out of the landfills and out of thrift stores.
The Freecycle Network™ is a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them's good people). Membership is free. For Long Beach the link is http://www.freecycle.org/search

You list the items with a brief description, people respond via email and arrange a time for them to come and pick up the items. Works wonders for clearing clutter out of the home.

My dtr goes to St. Luke's Christian Preschool in Long Beach (near Bellflower and Wardlow). The school may be able to use them (if age appropriate etc.) and if not they often collect and provide toys and clothes to families in need. You can call them at ###-###-####- you can ask for Susan or Katherine.

Check with your pediatrician's office. Waiting rooms always need more toys. Also call Therapy West & Play Studio. ###-###-####.

You could give them to Millers Children's Hospital in Long Beach. My daughter stayed there and they have a program that gives each child a few toys to have while they are in the hospital (they get to keep them in their room). They also have a play room for kids to use that has toys and books.

I was very appreciative of the toys we were allowed to borrow because our stay there was completely unplanned and we had nothing with us. I plan to donate some of my daughter's toys there when she is done with them.
