My dream is to go on a cruise for Thanksgiving. Leave the cooking and baking behind and float off to someplace warm. Not too much walking, either. Just scoot on over to the pool and sit in a lounge chair for the afternoon.
Great problem to have, right?!!! My mom is 70 and bored and I need a few days away from my kids so that I can come back and be a more patient, less frazzled mom!! My mom has copd, so can not walk long distances. Trying to figure out where we could go over thanksgiving, just to get away! Any ideas?!!!!
Thanks so much,
Nickie

Any chance you could take a cruise? That's the PERFECT vacation, especially for someone who has copd. The staff will be MORE THAN HAPPY to do everything for her including carrying her food trays, etc.
Not sure where Macomb is or your budget but how about a bed and breakfast along the lake shores-depending on where you want to go. Peaceful and relaxing with plenty of places to just sit and enjoy.
what about a spa weekend?
cruise would be great for her. perhaps vegas, I saw many older people getting arround on scooters and the dry weather may help her copd.
Take her on a cruise! There is so much to do on board that you don't ever have to get off and walk in the ports. She should be able to manage walking around the ship and you can get an accessible room if needed.
Love the cruise idea already mentioned! Cruises can be very active or not very active. The cruise line will tell you which shore excursions are ideal based on activity level, and there's always something fun going on while on board.
Really depends on how many days you have. Even if you took a four
day cruise out of Florida, you would need travel days. A cruise if you could
do it would work well for her. If you cannot take that much time, fly to
Florida, check into a nice hotel/resort and just sit, relax and enjoy your time
together. You are truly a wonderful daughter.
How about to a National Park she has never been to? We took my mom to the Grand Canyon in the spring and she was thrilled. She was so happy to see a Nat'l Park she had never seen before. They had one wheel chair trail and we could drive to see things. We spent one day taking a Park bus around to see different sites. They had lovely large lodges with amazing food at meal times.
What's your budget?
Are you willing to fly? Are you driving, if yes, what distance is ok?
One of the nicest away-from-home Thanksgiving vacations we've taken was to a cabin in the woods. We did take the kids, but we love to rents cabins for just ourselves, too. We could go out and walk or stay in by the fire, it was so relaxing. We brought all the fixins for the meal, cooked it there and had a really nice time. Maybe something like that?
Chicago? You can take Amtrak there. Very pleasant ride. And then rent a Hoveround or scooter/power chair for her.
Or there's Frankenmeuth. That's always nice.
