My middle daughter is going to be 8 yrs old in Feb. She has been asking for non-fiction books lately. She is in GT at school and loves to read biographies. She has a public library card but still craves books that belong to her so that she can read them over and over again. Does anyone have any books or educational magazines that they are willing to part with? I have taken her to half price books and she has spent all of her budgeted spending money there and I cannot make a trip to the library every day or even every other day. I will take any non-fiction book out there. Thanks for you help!

get a list of all the newberry medal books
you can go to the half-price books store and they have a section of newberry medal books there. You will not go wrong in picking a book from that section to get started.
If she's spent all of her budgeted money for the month, then you should have her wait until next month to purchase more.
My kiddos love to read too. I take them to the library all of the time and they get loads of books to read. The books can be checked out for 3 weeks and renewed twice if not requested by someone else. That way you wouldn't have to go more than once a week or once every 2-3 weeks.
Also, Amazon.com sells books real cheap and I got sets for my 9 year old as gifts.

Go to any local thrift store. I go to two in McKinney- Goodwill and Friends of the Inn. I get childrens books for 10 to 35 cents each. I am a teacher, so I need lots of books for my classroom library and can't afford them anywhere else! Friends of the Inn has many shelves full of books, Goodwill only has a small amount. My MIL is a thrift store junkie and got me started going with her. I have the best time and find some great stuff- you never know what treasures are waiting for you!
I'm sure this doesn't help since you live in FW BUT Denton has this awesome used book store called Recycled. We go there a lot. You might consider making a trip up to check it out. My dad lives in Indiana, and whenever he visits he brings a separate bag to put all the treasures he finds to take home! You could spend hours there. Myabe make it a weekend thing, or a monthly thing for you and your family. (then, of course, you can check out all the other cool stuff on the square!)

Why not let her check out as many books as the library will allow (depending on the library, that could be 10-20 books)? That way, she'll have plenty to keep her busy for a week or two and then you can make library trips a regular weekly activity. Also, has she looked through the magazines at the library? That might give you an idea of what type of magazine you could get for her to read. Plus, having books of your own is nice, but what will you do when she runs out of room to store all those books and she doesn't want to resell them (and you'll get next to nothing for them at Half Priced Books anyway).
You might consider checking out freecycle.org. You can post 'Wanted: books suitable for a 7 yr old, near' your city...it is a great source to give and receive.
actually, i routinely renew books at my local branch of the Dallas Public Library for WAY more than two times. I do it online and it's very convenient. You just log on with the number from your card and (as another poster mentioned) as long as there isn't a request for that book, I have renews TONS of times. I just keep track and go back in and renew as it gets closer if i didn't finish the book(s) yet...i get a lot of books about my business and the ingredients I use for the products i make...not just fiction...so i keep them a while and not many people request them.
I also do my searching for books from home (not the library computer) and request books and they send them right to my branch and all i have to do is walk in and give my card and there are my books....it's absolutely great! if you are in dallas the webpage is dallaslibrary.org. I am not sure where you live.. but in Grapevine.. there is a resale store called GRACE (it is the community outreach resale shop).. there are great books for $1.00 each.. Also, at our library in Grapevine.. there is also an area of books that you can bring books in and exchange them for the books you want.
