Washer and Dryer - San Dimas,CA

We're looking to buy a new washer and dryer. Naturally we want something energy/water efficient. Any recommendations? I've heard front loading washers save on water, but I've also heard mixed things about performance.

What can I do next?

We purchased our Whirpool Cabrio not to long ago and really like it. We looked into getting the whirpool front loader, but decided on the top loader with no agitator because it was able to hold more laundry (its 3xs the size of a normal washer.) I do find that if I wash a lot of heavy items ( I have washed over 20 pairs of jeans at one time) that I need to put it on the dry cycle twice, but the dry cycle only takes about 40 minutes so its not bad! I really like the washer, and its very energy efficient. It uses less water then my old machine, plus I am able to wash more clothes at once. I did learn though, to use more soap then the 1 scoop called for because it is washing a lot of clothes! I fill the fabric softner dispenser up and use 2 scoops of detergent. I really like it, especially with 4 kids! I only have to do about 3-4 loads of laundry a week, not bad becuase with my old washer I would do do about 12!

I bought a Maytag Front Loader in 2000 with a matching Dryer and spent a ton of money and the washer was a disappointment - there was mold on the rubber door seal and it deteriorated and I had to have Maytag replace it and they totally dragged their feet. I would stay away from Maytag.

Last January I bought a Kenmore front loader at Sears and it has been awesome - its a workhorse. Look for one with a Sanitary cycle - it almost boils the clothes, I use it to clean really dirty rags, etc.

It has a super spin cycle that really gets the clothes dry so my drying time is cut down to 30-40 minutes! So I am saving water and energy (gas in my case).

I bought just a regular energy efficient dryer to go with it - the matching one to the washer was too expensive. If you have limited funds to spend, I would recommend spending the money (and getting a service plan) for the Washer - it has more moveable parts and you want something good. A regular dryer works just fine and is less likely to .

Be sure to leave the washer door open when you are not using it so it does not get moldy and mine has a clean cycle I run once a month.

I really like my front loader and would recommend it :-)

Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat and can't offer any advice. I hope someone can...since I'm planning to purchase ASAP.

I've had a Kenmore, literally for years, and it just seems to keep on ticking. Read Consumer Reports, they have the best information out there. We read it thoroughly before any big purchase. But, I do have a suggestion, go to the Sears Appliance Outlet in Chino. We bought our fridge there last years for 40% of the retail price because it had a few scratches. The worst is on the side which you can't see at all, and the smaller ones are covered up by kids art!
