I have very wavy hair, prone to frizz.
If I were you I would spend the $ and have it done at a salon in the morning on the day of the wedding. The voodoo they do will LAST.
I'm in a wedding in Minneapolis MN (Im from AZ) in a couple of months. The bride said she wants our hair down, not even partially up. Otherwise, the style is up to us. My hair is long (3 inches past my shoulder), pretty heavy and has a natural wave to it, no bangs, frizzes easily, curls easily. I have a large head, rectangular face, with big cheeks, and small mouth. If I let my hair go all natural, it tends to be curly and straight and frizzy in random places and looks unkempt in my opinion. I really don't want to cut it shorter since my usual mama style is pony or braid. Who has any idea of what to do with it to last and look good for the afternoon/evening?
I decided I am going to take the next couple of months and experiment with products and styles suggested by you all. If I can't figure out something nice in the next month, I will make an appointment with a professional near the wedding. Thanks all.

get a flat iron and some flat iron spray, and do your hair when you are getting dressed. It should stay nice and straight, and not frizzy for you as long as you don't go out into the humidity.
I don't know how thick your hair is but take a look at my profile pic. I have curly hair and wore it down for my wedding. All I do is use product, scrunch and diffuse it to near dry. The product keeps the frizz down, scrunching seems to even up the curls and not drying it all the way lets the product do its thing.
You can have the salon blow it out nice and smooth. Or they can blow it out and add soft curls. Either way is pretty :)
It might be easier to go to The Aveda Institute in Mpls to have your hair done on the day of the wedding. It is CHEAP, and they can even do your makeup. Yes, they are students, but they are good and their instructors will be there to assist. It is just outside of downtown Mpls and is a pretty great experience.
I was in a wedding where I did my own hair and I had long heavy, wavy hair at the time too. Now I don't know if this would be considered partially up, but I washed mine and put mousse in it while wet then dried it. Next I curled it with a big curling iron for a bit of wave, since it likes wave anyway. Then I took a very small embellished bobby pin that coordinated with the jewelry we were wearing and took just a few little strands and pinned them back with a very small puff in the front. My hair was down, it just gave my face a little lift but did not look put up at all. So maybe that would work? Good luck!! Of course you can definitely get it done professionally and they will flat Iron it and it will look great, it is just a little pricey but very worth it!

I would go on you tube and do a search, my fav look for this would be a front lace dutch braid with cascading curls or you could do a waterfall braid with curls ... technically your hair is not up.
What about a french twist/ ponytail at the nape of your neck?

Do a retro wavy look kind of like Veronica Lake. there are a ton of how to videos on you tube that can show you how. I did a 40s pincurl once for a party and it came out so cool.
Hair spray.
Flat iron it.
Middle or side part.
More hair spray.
Go to a salon, the day of.
And, wear a button down blouse, so you do not have to pull your shirt off over your head. Later, to get dressed.
You do not have to, cut your hair.
Whatever style you decide to go with, try it out first way before the wedding.
So if you're going to go to a salon to blow it out then say....curl it...but again......try it out first.
If you're doing it yourself (say a blowing it straight then curling it), try it first now, again 2 weeks later then do it again the night before the wedding. You can always re-shower, re-blow dry it the morning of if you so choose to do so. Good luck and have fun at the wedding!
