I've been married for 8 years and just now started having problems with my ring. Just moved into a new house are were doing som renovations. Some how I got something under my rings. I don't know what it was but I will be fine for days but then I will get my hands wet and the area under my ring will start to burn. I know have a scar on my finger from the chemical burn. I take the rings off so my finger will heal and clean them but then the next week it starts again. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Have the ring cleaned by a professional jeweler. Wear your ring around your neck on a pretty chain until the burn heals.

I would try taking them to any jeweler and ask them to clean it for you.

Sounds like contact dermatitis. Keep the ring off for a significant period of time--like a few weeks.

Always make sure that UNDER your ring is dry after you wash your hands.

It could also be eczema. Try cortisone cream on the area at night.

I had this happen too after over 5 years of wearing my rings with no problems. I cleaned it good with a toothbrush with just plain soap and hot water (no harsh chemicals). That helped some but didn't do the entire trick. I ended up "painting" the inside of the rings with clear nail polish and that helped A LOT! I had to do that for a few months and then was able to wear them without painting the insides. If you have a sore where your ring usually goes, keep the ring off for a few days to let that breathe and heal. Also be sure to keep your finger clean and dry. One thing I still do is take my rings off when I take a shower or bath and also at night and that has helped a lot, too. Good luck to you! =)

I would strongly suggest not wearing your rings while doing housework, especially renovation work. My sister had a similar situation and it took forever for the irritation to clear-up. She actually went to the dermatologist about it who suggested not wearing her rings until the irritiation was completely healed. He suggested taking them off to do "dirty work", especially washing dishes!

My great grandfather was a jeweler. Do you know how he used to clean jewelry? Toothpaste! No lie. It works wonders. Try that. Also, every time you wash your hands, slip your rings up and make sure you are drying under your rings. When I first got married, I had a lot of problems because I wasn't doing that. Apparently the dampness between the rings and my finger caused my skin to get really irritated.

You need to deep clean your rings and make sure the soap you are using is washing off all the way. i get blisters under my rings when I use Soft Soap products. I have to rinse and rinse to get it all off, and I always take extra time to dry under my rings each time.

A good jeweler can put a coating on the inside of your ring. It is basically the same as putting clear nail polish on it but it lasts longer. This happens to me all the time with my rings. It is a common allergy to the nickel in the rings. My ring has lots of little holes under the diamonds and stuff gets in there and then it gets worse.
