We will be traveling to see family near Chicago (and frankly, we are sick of STL!), so we are looking for a place to go for a weekend getaway near Chicago. We would have the kids (ages 6, 7 and 6 months). Husband likes golfing and baseball, kids and I are up for anything so long as there is food! I am looking for suggestions for places to stay and things nearby to do.

Lake Geneva sounds amazing - I am definitely looking into it! Any suggestions where to stay?
You could drive up to Lake Geneva, and get lots of golf and lake stuff.
It's about 1.5hrs north of Chicago. Timber Ridge has a great waterpark (it's part of Grand Geneva), which has great golf as well. People usually rent a home up there for a week or weekend. Cute little town area.
You could also do the Indiana Dunes, which is about an hour south of the city. I've never been there, but I hear that it's great for families.
Lake Geneva for the day would be nice. Also, Lincoln Park zoo is free. See the botanical gardents. Or the museums...Shedd aquarium great for kids however, get there very very early to get your tickets or you'll be standing in line forever.
Do you want something more relaxed or more touristy/urban? If you're looking for something more slower paced, Lake Geneva would be a good option. Plenty to do for all age groups but without the hustle and bustle of the Mag Mile/tourist trap.
I am not sure what STL is but, if you have already been in and around Chicago and want to go elsewhere: How about Madison, WI (where I am from) or Wisconsin Dells?
