How do I deal with this hanging skin from loosing so much weight so fast? I just gave birth last month on the 11th and have 2 other children all under the age of 5. I'm on the go, eating healthier, breastfeeding, drink plenty of water, but I look terrible with all of my extra skin. Total so far within 4 weeks from having my son has been 30+ pounds. I'm obese so I have LOTS of extra skin to begin with and it’s not just in my stomach. I have it on my arms, my thighs, all over my entire body at this point. How do I help the skin get tighter??

What can I do next?

Give it some time--at least six months, to see if you have an improvement. Drinking lots of water and taking fish oil can help--the fish oil is also great for breast feeding! Good for babies growing brain. Also try gentle exercise--like walking--on a regular basis to see if that helps.
Good Luck!

First let me say congratulations on your wieght loss. That is great. And congratulations on you new baby. You are a busy momma. The best way to feel more secure with your body might be to wear one of those spanx suits. From you thigh to your bust and then they have a tank to go under your breast to your hips. Sounds so complicated.
Good luck and god bless

Hi J.,

Congratulations on your baby and your weight loss. I had a baby in May and can't seem to lose the weight. My aunt had gastric bypass surgery and for 6 months before her surgery, her doctor had her drinking water. I think she was up to 96 ounces a day. She was always walking around with her 32 oz. mug of ice water. The water helps with the elasticity i your skin. She has lost 180 pounds and looks great. She doesn't have all the sagging skin that so many other gastric bypass patients have. I don't know if it will help now but it might improve or help your skin if you continue to lose weight. Good luck!

My understanding is that you can't get rid of the skin and it usually takes surgery. I'll be looking to see if anyone else knows of anything. I'm interested, too.

Like Kimberly said, if it's truly just skin, I've been told the only way to get rid of it is surgery. I hate to say it, but once skin's lost elasticity, there's pretty much nothing you can do. There are a lot of creams and lotions that claim to "tighten up" skin, but I don't think any of them actually work. Possibly strengthening the muscles under the skin will give it a firmer appearance. I wish there were a way to tighten up excess skin besides surgery...

#1, you have to give it time. It took 9 months to stretch out the baby skin, its going to take more than 1 month for its to revert back. I seem to recall it taking around 6 months to feel like I didn't have stretched looking skin after my baby was born.

#2, don't expect it to ever be completely tight without drastic measure. Skin is elastic, but only to a point. Gaining or losing weight fast (especially if its weight that goes beyond pregnancy weight) causes stretch marks, which is your skin literally breaking and scarring becuase of too much growth too fast. You can't really undo the stretching done by stretch marks. There are creams and potions that can help some, but there really is only 1 permanant solution, as far as I know.

If you're serious about losing weight and getting in shape and you don't want to have loose skin to remind you of what you used to look like (and to make it easier to return to what you used to look like) I would start saving for surgury. Plan to get it when you are done having kids and VERY near your goal weight. It really is, as far as I know, the only permanat solution. Even the people who win "The Biggest Loser" still can have leftover saggy skin that doesn't go away without surgury.

Good luck!

There are these natural herbs that can help tighten and tone your skin as you lose weight. I have been able to tone up and get rid of stretch marks and tighten skin after having my second child on a personalized Herbalife program. If you are interested in taking a look at it, my email is ____@____.com or my office phone number is 888-236-4453.

Hi J.,
So happy to hear about your healthy baby baby!
As a nurse I have to tell you that only with serious exercise with SOME of the skin improve.
If you were obese to begin with than plastic surgery may be the only solution.
Enjoy those wonderful children, take care of yourself and give it some more time
Don't forget to talk with your doctor about your concerns at your six week check-up.

Unfortunately to the best of my knowledge there isn't much you can do without invasive surgery. Your skin has been stretched and has lost its elasticity. Don't be discouraged though, I'm sure you feel better now that you have lost weight and you are certainly on your way to better health. Although we would all like that 'perfect' body who's to say what 'perfect' is. Good health is more important then being a size 4. You could have everything you desire but if your'e not healthy you essentially have nothing. Think about health not size.
Congratulations on your new baby and your good health, keep up the good work.
