Hi Everyone.
I am trying to put together a Weight Loss Challenge for our community. I have it ready to go with nutrition classes every week, a weigh-in, measuring, and one on one coaching but Im not sure what the best way would be to get the information out to the community. If anyone has great ideas I could sure use some help!
Thanks!

Hi,I'm a grandma from Utah, here in Romania for 18 months on a mission for my church. Maybe you could post info on the local grocery store bulletin boards. Or pass out flyers(with permission), in front of grocery stores on Saturday mornings and/or Friday evenings. Put flyers around the neighborhoods? Good luck with your project, it sounds great! Ann
KUED has a public service announcement "billboard". That might work and maybe KSL.com?
Hey, S.! check out this webpage. We have a lot of fitness awareness here in Willmar, connected to the radio, the public nurses, and the schools. You may get some great ideas! Good luck! <http://yourq102.com/Content.aspx?pageID=1>
Here's a few that are listed at the bottom of that webpage:

www.acmc.com
www.shopsatkandi.com
www.anytimefitness.com
Try posting flyers anywhere they will let you ie: grocery store, laundry mats, library, your childs school, church
Post on message boards, craigslist
Have you considered contacting the local churches that may sponsor mom's groups like MOPS and MomsClub? Also, there may be a preschool education program through the school district for young children that might be a grea outreach opportunity, as well as a place for your children to play and learn.
Maybe you're already aware of this resource, but I just had to mention SparkPeople.com. I only learned about it a week ago, but am already tracking my goals successfully online and have found some other people in my area that are putting together some walking groups and such.
It sounds like you're putting everything together yourself, so I'm suggesting this as a means of getting the word out and networking with people. Maybe you want to set up your own Spark Page and group, and can encourage your participants to keep their goals and journals online. I know if I am writing down what I'm eating/drinking and how much I'm exercising every day, I'm much more aware of my choices. Also, it's nice to have this resoure because, though I'm committing to track my progress, I'm not required to go to meetings. My schedule is busy enough as it is, and I appreciate being able to use my free time for exercise and activities and, sometimes, for "me time."
I like the site a lot because participants can choose how much can be viewed, what types of groups to join (exercise, spirituality, special interests, etc.) and everything is FREE!!! No matter the budget, "FREE" is always something that catches my attention!!! ;-) I am still browsing the groups available and such and have joined a few based on geography, motherhood and common interests. Some of the groups even offer friendly competitions in terms of getting exercise minutes for the week or some such goal. So far, it's been very fun!
Just some ideas, in case this isn' info you are already aware of. Good luck!
Would love to chat with you more. I also do lifestyle/wellness coaching, personal training and nutrition consulting and stay at home with my 6 month old son. Feel free to shoot me an email at ____@____.com
I belong to the Salt Lake County Rec centers and they have bulliten boards in the entrances of the facilities, you may want to post a bulliten there or at other helth clubs around the valley. Another suggestion is on the early morning news broadcasts they always do segments on health and wellness, you may want to see if you could get a spotlight on your program.
well i am not sure how you would advertise but way to go i would love to be in that some how when you get ready to start i am having a hard time getting myself motavated and i think something like that would help. i watch the biggest loser and i think that would be cool to go on i need to lose witch i think is a great amount and not sure how to cook nutritional meals. I am a stay at home mom with two children. I am from niles where are you located.
You could post it on Craig's List as well as Madison Meetup.com. Let us know where you post it so we can read more about it and find out how to get involved. Thanks
Sorry I have no good ideas about what you can do. But I do know that I would like some more info on the whole thing. Good luck sounds like a great plan.
wow not sure how to get the word out but if you are close to me i would like to get on it
Community Ed if your school has one. I live in Sauk Rapids, MN. Our comm. Ed is great about offering classes for adults. where are you located? Would love to join ya!! P.
Hi. I am not sure if you still a weight loss coach in need of a location. I also am a weight loss coach and have started doing a weight loss challeng classes in Murray (Salt Lake). If you are still interested please let me know and we can work something out.
Check out the 100 day challenge at http://www.livehealthyamerica.org/
It's a nationwide challenge - It just started and provides tips, advice and tracking methods.
There is a $15 fee, but you might be able to find an organization locally participating and offering discounts. Our Hy-Vee had $5 coupons.
It is something I would be interested in. Maybe you could coordinate with the Ymca and contact mother's groups to give inservices. J.
where are you at? and do you have a place to go to for this?
Try a public service announcement. Sounds great, I wish you were in my area!
