Ok, so I am finally starting to think about joining weight watchers. If you did it, which did you do? Meetings? On-line? Which 'items' helped you the most? I see they have books, calculators, scales, etc. Thanks!

What can I do next?

When I do Weight Watchers I lose both ways, meetings and online, but have more success with the meetings. But, you have to find the right one. Sometimes the one closest to you won't have a leader whose personality clicks with you; sometimes there will be very irritating members who constantly interrupt the leader, etc. So, I'd try it out and be willing to try multiple centers.

I don't use the books, except for the pocket guide. I find it easiest to track with my iPhone.

I have never bought a scale, but I wish I would have. When I resume WW after this pregnancy, I will buy the scale.

I have done WW in the past and found attending the meeting to be most helpful. It kept a level of accountability to myself until I could get to a place where I could be responsible on my own. Currently pregnant, I am not doing WW but I do still find myself eating the same items I did when I was a member. I agree with one of the posts about finding a leader that you can relate to. I have been in meetings where I watched the leader talk down to people on numerous occassions and after the 3rd time, I decided this was not someone who wanted to help anyone achieve their goals through positive reinforcement.
I have a few WW cookbooks that I look to for quick, healthy meals that we still use and we weigh our food (not a WW specific scale). We don't eat out alot so buying the 'Dining Out' guides wasn't necessary for me. I liked the online tools but I just felt like I wasn't really accountable to anyone by doing online only.

I think the program is great and you can really learn tips to keep you accoutnable in the long run if you want to be. I find that most people looking for a quick fix will go back (and then some) if you don't take responsibility!

Best of luck J.!

I did it. I did the meetings (the online never worked for me, I needed the wekly weigh in and supportive settng).

If you have a smart phone you can use the calculator in the app. The Activ-Link is new and I know a lot of people who are totally in love with it but I've never used it.

I bought a scale, but not the WW one, I still use it all the time.

I preferred the paper journals for tracking food, it was just easier to keep on my kitchen counter and scribble down what I was eating as I grabbed it from the cabinet.

This was a couple years ago when I did WW - I lost 70 pounds in a year with no more exercise than just walking. Years later, I've kept it off. I don't do WW anymore, I just track calories and workout, trying to lose my last 15 pounds.

Overall I'd say that if you've tried other things without success, try it. It works as long as you work it. (This is the part where I stand up and hold the waistband of my old pants out and say, I went from a size 20 to a size 10 eating anything I wanted to!)

When I did WW we did the online and meetings. It depends on you, how accountable you are for yourself. How do you eat now? Pretty healthy? Not sure. I know that the meeting leaders have great insight into what could be possible breaks in loosing weight. For instance. The 0 point butter spray, somone was using an entire bottle of that a day, well. the whole bottle is not 0 point, but a regular serving is. So it is adding up the 0 point foods sometime that can be the problem. They have lots of good tips and sharing stories and ideas with other members also helps.

Good luck and Awesome choice for diet change.

Hi J.,

I did weight watchers on-line and it really does work. They have articles, recipes, web groups, menu plans...just about everything you could possibly need. I love the points tracker online and I'm pretty sure they have an app, too. It helped me track what I was eating as well as any exercise I was doing. They also have an app for when you go out to dinner to help you know what's best to eat on the menu. It includes most chain restaurants. We quit because we moved and I just lost track of all of it, but I would really like to start again.
