I have done Weight Watchers in the past and want to start again. I don't really have the money to go to the meetings or join on-line so I am going to try to do it on my own. The only thing I can't find is how many points I am allowed for my weight. I know this info changes as you lose the weight but I can't find anything to help me figure this out.

Does anyone know where I can find this info or if you know do you mind helping me out???

THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!

Hi J.,
There is a great website called www.prevention.com which is really great. It has an online weight loss program that is just like the WW one and it is FREE!. It is really easy to use and very informative too. I lost weight on it.
Give it a try.

Best of luck,

W.

Hi J.,
I've also been on WeightWatchers in the past & lost 30 lbs. and have been able to keep the weight off for 2 years. I've recently joined again to see if i can lose my last extra 25 lbs. or so!!! Here is the little formula to calculate your points:

Are you:
Female?-----2pts
Male?-------8pts
A Nursing Mom*?-----12pts

How Old Are You?
17*-26---------4pts
27-37---------3pts
38-47---------2pts
48-58---------1pts
Over 58-------0pts

What do you weigh?
Enter the first two digits of your weight in pounds. For example, if you weigh 175, enter 17. If you weigh less than 100 pounds, enter the first digit of your weight in pounds. i.e. for 98, enter 9.

How tall are you?
Under 5'1"----0pts
5'1"-5'10"----1pts
Over 5'10"----2pts

Do you spend most of your day:
Sitting down?------------------0pts
(e.g. as a receptionist, bus driver, cab driver)
Occasionally sitting, but mainly standing?---2pts
(e.g. sales person, housewife, cook, teacher)
Walking most of the time?-------4pts
(e.g. waiter, mailman)
Doing physically hard work most of the time?---6pts
(e.g. nurse, gardener, construction worker)

The total is your daily points target.

*Nursing moms and young people under 17 should talk with a WW leader before beginning the program.

**If your total is less than 18, your daily points target is 18; if your total is more than 44, your daily points target is 44.

***Retake the quiz as your weight goes down, as you get older or if you change the way you spend you day.

Remember that you have 35 allowance points each week as well. You can save them to eat out once a week, or however you choose. You don't even have to use them if you don't want to. Keep in mind that they start over each week.

You also earn more points when you exercise. You have to have a points calculator to help determine how many points you've earned.

It kind of depends on your height. I am tall, so when I want to start losing weight and I am no prego or nursing, I just use 27 points daily, or 22 daily points with a bank of 35 for the week, however you like to do it. I am 5' 9", but my mom is shorter than me and has done that too and done well. Once I lose about 10lbs or so I go down to like 26, and so on. I never eat less than like 22 or 23 points and honestly I think you could even stay around 25 and do great. I have always needed to lose 30-40lbs when I have started. If you need to lose more than that then start at a higher point level, like in the 30s and go from there. I have also had good success with counting calories. I got on about.com and looked up how many calories I needed to lose weight and it showed me what I needed to maintain my current weight and what I needed to lose 1lb per week or 2lbs per week. I just made my own little excel spreadsheet and lost like 25lbs just logging my food and eating a healthy diet. Points and calories are really the same thing, either way you can create a healthy diet plan with some treats along the way. Good luck!

I'm assuming you're talking about the flex plan and not the core plan. 1. Female - 2 points, 2. since you didn't mention your age - up to 26 - 4pts., to 37 - 3 pts., 47 - 2 pts., 3. what do you weigh - use the first 2 points, 4. how tall - under 5'1" 0pts, to 5'10" 1 pt. over that 2 points. 5. The next one's a bit more difficult - how do you spend your day sitting down 0 pts, occasionally sitting but mainly standing 2 pts, walking most of the day 4, doing physically hard work most of the day 6. Add you 5 catagories and there's your daily point total. Don't forget your 35 splurge points for the week - best to use them in 2 days instead of over the week. Good luck

Do you still have all your old materials? Just use those. You can also get online for free and use the message boards. Find a good supportive group and you will not be doing it alone.

If you ask the q on the boards, it will be pulled, though, so troll around a while and see what you find.

Good Luck.

Hi J.,

I don't have the information you asked for, so I almost didn't write -- this isn't what you wanted to know. But I just want to pass on a piece of information that might help at some point -- there are two different 12 step programs (that I know of) dealing with food and weight. The one that I know best is Overeaters Anonymous. Meetings are free and there are many weekly meetings in the Houston area. I can't recall the name of the other one, but I think it has some meetings in the Houston area too. You can find OA meetings online at OAHouston.org. OA helped me a lot, but usually folks only are willing to try it if they are convinced other options aren't going to help, so I'm just giving you this to keep in your back pocket in case knowing OA is out there might ever help you or someone you know.

Good luck!

Congrats. B4 we started Weight Watchers at Work this fall, I released 18lbs on my own using my past WW materials. Now I'm another size down and close to my 10% goal! As a group we have lost over 180lbs!

According to my materials, with the new plan you have 35 points per WEEK you can skate with, and the daily points for me, at 200lb is 24 points. Goes up or down 2 points every 10 lbs. I rarely use the 35 weekly points.

The points for your weight are simply the first 2 numbers of your weight. So, if you weigh 190 lbs, then you use 19. However, there are a few more criteria like how active you are, your height and age. I'm doing WW on my own. I weigh 170 am 5' 10" and 27 yrs old and I get 25 points a day. Hopefully you can figure out by my info about how many points you can consume. Good luck with your weight loss journey!

Hello J. - I think you can attend one weight watcher's meeting for free. They will tell you your daily point allotment. After that, you lose one point for every 10 pounds you lose. Example: I started weight watcher's at 322 pounds and was allowed 37 daily points and 35 weekly points to use whenever, as long as I used them all during the week. When I dropped below 320 pounds, I went to 36 points per day, with 35 weekly; dropped below 310 pounds and have 35 points per day and 35 weekly; dropped below 300 and have 34 points per day and 35 weeekly. Weight Watcher's sells a purse-sized calculator that also calculates points which is very handy in the grocery store as you can take the information from the package, plug it into the calculator and it gives you the per serving points. If you are a nursing mother, that makes a difference in your point calculation. Hope this helps!
