Hi! I have heard that I can do Weight watchers while breastfeeding. I wonder if weight watchers kit works for nursing moms too. I dont have much time to be online, so for me would work the kit. Anyone breastfeed and does weight watchers kit? Im 28 years old, 5'7 and 140 pounds. This was my second pregnancy. In my fist pregnancy, i gained 50 pounds and I back on my 120 pounds thanks Nutrisystem (but i did nutrisystem when my daughter was 1 year and half old). In this last pregnancy i gained again 50 pounds and now im stuck on 140 ppounds. My baby is 5 weeks old and Im thinkingto do WW with the extra points to nursings moms because i cant do Nutrisystem while breastfeeding...P.S: Im asking about WW KIT and no WW online.
Thank you all for the answers!

My mom is a weight watcher leader and I did weight watchers after i had my last child and will do so again when I have the one Im pregnant for and I also breastfeed. When you do weight watchers as a nursing mom you get extra points and have to eat an extra calcium everyday. when I did the program I was never hunger, most of the time I found myself having extra points at night I had to use! Make sure to use all your points so your getting enough calories for your baby! I also never had an issue with my milk production. Weight Watchers isnt about dieting, its ment to be a life change. You get healthy portions, you eat healthy food and learn how to just be a healthier person! I had so much more energy when I was on the program becauseof all th fruits and veggies and healthy things I was eating! Good luck with everything! If you have any more queastions for about the program feel free to message me and I can get the info from my mom! She has been with the co for years!

Um I just want to add that while I think everyone has their own ideal proportions for their body and body type, I hope you sort of give yourself a little bit of a break. I'm not saying that you should eat all day long and not focus on being healthy and trim, but you're only 5 weeks out. And 5'7" 140 lbs - that's not very big! You're nursing, and you're obviously motivated. I'm not saying don't do the WW, but be gentle with yourself. Eat healthy, drink lots of water, exercise, the weight will come off. I just went through the same journey myself and now am down to my goal weight and have more muscle than I had before baby #2, AKA am in even better shape.

I suggest saving your money on the WW thing and invest in a couple of awesome workout dvds that you can do at home while the babies are napping. The ones that did it for me are Jillian Michaels' 30-Day Shred (the workouts are only 20 minutes long-you do it every day for 30 days; I did it every day for 60 days, then after that alternate with other workouts) and Karen Garcia's Pilates for Weight Loss. I've never been someone that loses weight easily, I have to work my butt off (literally haha). So when someone suggested the DVDs I was kind of skeptical about it working for me but wanted to give it a shot because it would work so well with being at home with the kids. Now 15 pounds lost and a lot of muscle gained later, I'm comfortably wearing clothes that were too tight even before baby #2. Yay summer!

Cut out unnecessary sugars (white sugars), white pastas and white breads. NO SODA, even diet soda - besides being garbage for your body it actually contributes to weight gain for many people. Stick to whole grains and wheat pasta or farro, leaner meats & fish, nuts and eggs (in moderation), veggies, some dairy, and little treats like good dark chocolate (1 little square a day is fine and even good for you some believe), an occasional glass of red wine, green tea.

You can do it.

I have done weight watchers since my daughter was 6 months old. I am a lifer now and LOVE the program. It is very safe while nursing because there are no drugs. It is about changing lifestyles. The kit provides the necessary information and guides for you to do that from home without attending a meeting. If you can, though, it is fun and rewarding to go to a meeting, but i understand if you can't. The Kit offers everything you would receive through going to meetings without leaving your home. Basically weight watchers consists of lists of foods and what the points are based on serving proportions. You are not starving yourself, just eating more healthy, which is good for you and the baby. It did help me, kit or no kit, to learn about myself, exercise, why I eat and what my body is really craving. The big thing, I learned to drink a lot more water which was awesome for nursing and for me as well.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't do Weight Watchers while nursing as long as you're incorporating the needed extra 500 calories/day for your body to lactate into the equation.

You might want to consider consulting with a dietician first to see how many calories/day you need for weight loss and proper caloric management for nursing.

But, all Weight Watchers is, in essence, is a balanced meal planning and accountability plan. Most registered dieticians I've worked with professionally prefer it to just about anything out there because it doesnt' restrict foods but rather balances them into a level of points for either weight loss or weight maintenance.

Good luck!

Good for you wanting to get into shape and nursing your baby!! I nursed my son from the beginning and I found that being a new mom and nursing made the weight I gained during pregnancy fall off in just months. I only gained 24 lbs so I am not sure if you were heavy to begin with or gained more than the recommended amount of weight. Also, you didn't say if your baby is a newborn or 6 months plus. If your baby is under 6 months old and exclusively nursing, I would really just try to eat healthy and watch your portion sizes and not worry about points. If you have an older baby then you can do weight watchers but just make sure you are eating a very well balanced diet since nursing can deplete your body. Good luck!

I do WW and am nursing. For the first 4.5 months I was nursing exclusively and got 10 extra points each day for nursing solely. Once I added in solid foods, it went down to 5 points.

Others have said to try it on your own until 6 months, but I consulted with my OB at 6 weeks to see if I could go and he said yes. I've been going several months and am down 20 pounds (this is after the 25 I lost in the first 6 weeks after having my son).

Just do it!!!

I'm doing WW online and breastfeeding exclusively. They give you 10 extra points for it. Its working for me, I've lost 4 lbs in two weeks. For nursing moms, they say after the first 3 weeks you should only lose a lb a week to keep things safe for your supply. The first three weeks its ok to lose more. I'm really liking it, it makes me stop and think rather than just eating as much as I want.

The first day was the hardest for me because I had been eating SOO much and telling myself I could because I was bfing. I also tried to conserve my points for the end of the day but I quickly figured out that I needed to eat a low point snack EVERY time I got hungry and it leveled out for me after that.

But I do agree with Beata, if you just had your baby, its not the time to diet. Mine is 8 months.
