I would find a new doctor. But seriously i think you should go see a good internist and get some answers.
So my last cycle was off...I spotted for a full week and bled heavily for 8 days stopped for 2 days and am now spotting again on & off. Typically I spot for about 2 days, bleed heavy for 2 days, then back to spotting for a day or two.) I have been getting headaches for the past 3 weeks, my knees out of nowhere are hurting, I'm breaking out like I am 13, I'm gaining weight, I am thirsty all the time, and I am having terrible cramps (but not with bleeding)...just weird random stuff. I called my ob and they said to see how my next cycle is. I also took 2 pregnancy tests (at different times) and they were negative. Any thoughts???
***Also not under any new stress...just the usual money, getting everything done, etc. Same stuff for the last 6 years!! :)
Thanks!
Thanks for the stress and pregnancy thoughts Michelle & Jennifer.

Have you been under a lot of stress? I know that when we were at the hardest points in our lives I had some of the same issues you did.
Possibly you were pregnant and miscarried?
You list a myriad of symptoms, possibly all related from one disease or possibly unrelated from a variety of causes. I would make an appt with your primary care provider and see about getting a general check up and blood tests. Sometimes what seems to be random to us spells out a specific condition to a doctor. Tell every doctor you may see regarding these issues all of your symptoms, even if you think they aren't relevant or don't apply to a particular doctor or visit. Some of what you list could be peri-menopause, arthritis, hypothyroidism, PCOS (polycyctic ovarian syndrome), endometriosis, diabetes, pregnancy, strep, various autoimmune diseases, medication side effects, the list goes on and on. I think a list like that deserves a work-up. Hope you figure things out and are able to get back to your old self soon.
I don't know how old you are but could this be peri-menapause? We go through peri-menapause for a few years before actual menapause sets in. Peri-menapause can cause irregular periods and extended bleeding. I can remember in myself there were times I bled for 3 weeks. My period would seem normal, heavy the first couple of days then taper off to nothing and the next day start all over again with heavy bleeding, cramps and weakness. It didn't happen every month but about 3 times a year. The breaking out and the weight can also be a sign that your body is starting menapause.
As far as your doctor is concerned ---- FIRE HIM!!!!! Call his office and ask for a doctor who gives a d**m. This man is talking down to you and treating you like you are stupid. I once told a doctor that just because he was a doctor didn't make him any smarter than I am --it just meant he read different books.
I would be miffed if my doctor told me to wait.
I would find a new doctor. Tell them you want to be seen NOW and that you need a blood test ran. Have you been losing weight? If so - it could be diabetes....it could be a myriad of things...do you have any rashes on your body?
DO NOT put this off - it is NOT normal for you - find a doctor who will listen to you that this is NOT right FOR YOU and get checked out!!
Good luck! I hope it's nothing serious.
I would call my doctor again. They get soooooo many "I had a weird period this month" calls that sometimes the rest doesn't click. Just MAKE an appointment (with them or your GP), go in, and say:
- Joint pain
- headaches
- skin breakouts
- abdominal pain/cramps
- sudden weight gain
- really strange period (8 days instead of 4 followed by continuous spotting)
This SOUNDS hormonal. (And isn't a strange symptom list) But whether it's gynecological, adrenal, or infectious I have no idea.
There is something in the air, Im telling you! Everyone I know has had horrible problems this month, Im not kidding.
If you miscarried, you would probably still have the pregnancy hormone in you and that would show up on a test. Probably...
I would just see how it goes, like your doc said and go from there. Good luck! Hope you feel better!
My knees hurt when I have strep (even without a sore throat!,) and it screws up my cycle. Usually a rapid throat swab test comes back positive, but the negatives are sometimes false, so it's best to ask for a 72 hour culture (the "gold standard" for strep testing.)
I have heard that leg pain can be a sign of endometriosis. I would be concerned about clots, etc. if you are having such a range of symptoms, and would probably call another dr., if even your family dr. just to do some tests and be sure it's nothing critical.
If next month's period is worse-- more painful, more blood or more days of bleeding-- consider endometriosis. And feel free to send me a message with any questions about it. Wait, do you mean that you have had only 2 days without bleeding in a 18 day timeframe? If that is the case I definitely want you to email me. And like Sarah said, call all of your doctors.
