I recently put an item up for sale on craigslist and one day I got the weirdest phone call ever! A guy called me on my cell phone asking for a request if he can purchase my victoria's secret under garments. I was like...ok.... I asked him why does he want to buy it for? He says he's a male stripper and needs to buy some victoria's secreat under garment as in bra, panties...etc....I was thinking to myself what an idiot, what is this guy talking about. He said he didn't want to purchase the clean ones, he want to purchase the one that I'm wearing. Now this really is getting really weird for me, so I said sorry I can't help you I got other things to do...bye!!!

Thought I would share the weirdness with everybody. I'm still laughing about it, just thinking about it. Has anyone encounter any weird phone calls or prank calling? This is so weird to me.

What can I do next?

Yes, this guy is a real wierdo. REAL female impersonators and strippers tend to be very persnickety about their "equipment" garments are custom made just for them, often right down to their undies. For the most part they would NEVER utilize used undergarments and are more likely to spend hours and hours in Victoria's Secret, Frederick's, etc. finding just what works for their schtick. This was not a legitimate business offer, obviously.

In the future, NEVER put your phone number on the internet in such a way. Make interested parties contact you through a blind CL e-mail address. Handle everything online and do not ever give out your phone number until you clinch a deal with someone and then only if they are local to you and need to contact you personally to obtain the merchandise.

In all things, Caution.

According to some researchers in the field of sex crimes, making obscene phone calls is another version of exhibitionism (such as flashing). While it is typically regarded as harmless, there is a certain level of aggressiveness prompting this type of behavior that in your case, I believe, should not be ignored. If this call were the result of a randomly dialed number, I would say it's disturbing but harmless. However, since it was generated by an ad that you posted on Craigslist, I have to assume that the individual who made the call has personal information of yours. While it may have been humorous in a weird sort of way, the fact that you have posted it on here tells me that on some level you are bothered by this situation. Please listen to your gut when it comes to this call, and do not assume that it is nothing. If you have the phone number, name, or other information of the caller, I would suggest that you call the police department and make a report. If it makes you feel better, just tell them you know it may be nothing but that you'd just feel better if they were aware of what has happened. I don't know what you were trying to sell, but if it was something suggestive, you may want to reconsider trying to sell it through classified ads. While I don't think this has anything to do with the murders referred to by another lady, you should be aware that you are exposing yourself to a lot of potential danger when you give out your personal information to sell things through anonymous and widespread publications such as craigslist. You may also want to notify Craigslist about the incident. I suspect in light of the murders, they are going to want to start clamping down on the way people access information through their web site. I think it would be good for them to be aware of even minor issues arising from use of their site.

I think I will not be listing my phone number in my craigslist ads anymore. I'll just stick with the "anonymous" email address they provide. Too weird. If you get any more calls I recommend calling the police and reporting the harassment.

While this is pretty hilarious - I agree with the person who said don't list your phone number or any personal information on craig's list. It's too easy for people to find your personal information on the web these days. Although this guy was probably harmless, there could be some crazy people out there who would stalk you, harass you, or otherwise mean to cause you or your family harm. Also, if you use the anonymous email, when people DO email you, don't give them any other personal information until you're sure they are legit. Give as little info as necessary if you are inquiring about an item too. I google people before I go check out their items that are for sale and I never go alone. Be safe!

Hello, Mai,

When I could no longer wear heels, I put them up for sale on ebay. I am not entirely sure that this was a prank you got. All of my shoes sold on ebay to the same person.
That person messaged me later to tell me how much HE liked them! He said he loved the worn smell and the tiny sz (i take a 5)
All, i can say is that it takes all kinds! lol

For your safety, always make yourself anonymous when using craigs list!!!! Craigs list, while free and usefull it is abused by those that don't have good intentions. While I didn't have anyone ask me something so strange, some one did try to scam me. I was skeptical and avoided that inquiry ...then a week later learned about this particular scam that was going on from the channel 9 news.

If you use a listed phone number, anyone can get your home address. Look at website www.pipl.com and see just how much information you can pull up on somebody ...even your kids pictures in some cases!!

Be careful! and if anyone ever asks about your underwear again, hang up immediately. A person capable of asking such a question to a stranger they've never even met is not of a sound mind and should be considered dangerous!

Please beware of calls like that! They just caught a guy that has been killing people he contacts through craigslist! I don't want to scare you, but that is definitely not a laughing matter, and I would report it.

Have you not been watching the news? There is a Craigslist murderer out there. They think they caught him but then another happened. Be so careful with these types of things. It is not a joking matter. Please be very careful and DO NOT give out any personal information. Get off the phone immediately and if it persists, call the police and report it.

I would alert the police, this is a form of a sexual disorder! He likes to smell used underwear, even wear them. Make sure you give the police the number he called from, the date and time.

Have you seen in the news lately about the "craig's list serial killer"? I would be EXTREMELY careful when listing anything on craigs list. Don't ever let someone you don't know come to your house to pick any items up. Meet them in town somewhere. And I hate to say that weird phone calls are not neccessarily just pranks these days. It could be a real physco. Please be careful!

There are always perverts out there no matter how innocent an ad you put in is. I would suggest that if an incoming call doesn't show a phone number, that you let it go to voice mail. If it shows 'unknown' or 'private' ignore it & let the machine get it. Chances are they'll not leave a message.

My sister-in-law (a petite little thing) once got an 'obscene' phone call from a man asking her what it felt like to be a woman -- to wear panties, etc. She's usually very easily alarmed, but she just kept talking (this was before cell phones, so he had called her home #). She just kept calmly answering his questions until finally HE hung up. She said if he'd been quoting her address or anything like that, it really would've freaked her out, but she won that one! Sounds like some quirky dude got your number, too. Hope that's that last you hear from him!

I agree with the above... I would call the police and report this call. Do you still have a number o n your caller id? There are all kinds of scams going on with craigslist and this just sounds like another predator... sorry, don't mean to scare you, but you really need to take caution.

My husband is a retired police officer. Please be careful and please be aware that some predators aren't just interested in you, they are trying to get to your children too.

Again, please be careful.

Ooooh.
You got yourself a weirdo!

If that should happen again, hang up immediately & report it to the police. Have caller ID? jot the # down to give to the cops. That is harassment. Or tell him you will press charges before you hang up.

Then tell ALL you friends & laugh at the bastard.

P :)

I definitely wouldn't be laughing about it. Especially with everything that is going on right now with people in this world. I agree with the other responses, I would call the police and notify them of the call. I hope you have caller id and can get the number. People are absolutely crazy these days and I wouldn't put myself at risk for things. Now a couple of years ago I would probably be laughing with you, unfortunately things have changed for the worst. Keep your guard up with this. You just never know.

If you still have the phone number on your caller id, you might want to write it down in a safe place so if you have any more problems you can provide it quickly to authorities.
If you got a call, chances are there are others out there that have too. BTW When I was in college, I worked at Lane Bryant, male strippers buy new stuff there a lot. If someone is wanting used unwashed items that is a huge flag.
You might even consider contacting authorities so they can stake out Craig's list for him.

You need to get his telephone number off of your caller ID and make a police report. He could be a sex offender and you could be his next target. If he has your telephone number he can get your address off of the internet. Be observant of all strangers near your home or anywhere that you go. Trust your gut instincts. Don't hesitate to call 911 if you get a gut feeling like you are in danger. You are probably not the first woman that he has called. The police may need the information that you have to share with them.

There are all kinds of weirdos out there, but answering your ad and wanting to buy your product doesn't constitute harassment, or reason enough to call the police. People can make a request (such as "would you deliver") or whatever, and you can say "no", just as you did. The police would probably tell you to not put your phone number in the ad, which clearly you shouldn't, especially if you're selling such personal items.

I've heard of women selling breast milk, and sometimes their buyers are men - who drink it, or put it on their cereal or whatever. Some of the sellers (lactating women) get requests from men to drink it right out of them for more money (yikes!) More on that here: http://jscms.jrn.columbia.edu/cns/2007-04-10/levenson-bre...

I also once read an article about a young woman in college who paid her way through school by meeting men in public places (like a coffee shop). She would remove her underwear (I don't remember if she did it in the bathroom, or discretely under the table) then give it to the guy, and he would give her a lot of money. I definitely don't condone that, but apparently there's a market for it, and this guy that's contacted you may be shopping around for such arrangements.

Anyway, weirdos abound, and now you've learned to be more cautious with your ads.
