Hi Ladies: My 2 yr old has awful seasonal allergies. Hes been taking Aldex DM for over a year now. Everything was great till this Mountain Cedar kicked in. We've been to the doctor several times since Christmas. We've tryed several allergy meds and none have worked. What are you giving your children for their runny noses? Right now my son is taking Aldex and Cingulair, with no relief. Maybe someone out there is giving their child something we havent tryed yet. Heck, my son has even gotten am allergy shot. Didnt work. HELP please.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So this is what happened. I ended up taking him off of the prescription medicines I was giving him. The Singulair made his cheeks extremely red for several hours after taking it. The Aldex just wasnt helping either. So I went back to the basics. OTC Benadryl. It almost completely stopped his runny nose. After a few days of Benadryl we went back to the Aldex. Doing just fine now. Thanks for everyones advise.

For me, I use Zyrtec and Flonase daily. When I feel I'm on the verge of a sinus infection, I drop the Zyrtec and add Allerx PE and Astelin nose spray.

My daughter is on Allegra and Nasonex.

My son is on Zyrtec and Nasonex. He used to be on Clarinex which worked well until this last summer.

Xango! We've completely gotten off of medications with this all natural product. The lady that I get it from is named DeeAnn and her number is ###-###-####. Good luck. Tell her that Jenifer with The Body Shop sent you.
It's the best stuff... trust me. It shrank my mother's cancer tumors and she ended up not needing any chemo or radiation. The only treatment she did was the Xango.
Give it a shot... it's just a fruit product. Call DeeAnn and she can tell you more about it.

Allergy medicines only do so much. You need to reduce the allergins in your house, from cleaning products to bath products. My son has a lot of allergies, including environmental and food allergies. Once we switched clothes detergent (we use ALL, w/o dye or purfumes) We are also using Arbonne bath products. He was on Zyrtec for almost a year. At his 18 month appot, i talk with his pedi and we actually took him off of the zyrtec. He's been off about a week and 1/2 and is doing great!! I've been told that we all have an allergy "threshold" and if it get above that threshold, we start getting sick. Also, if your immune system is "out of allignment," you will be sick more and be influenced by a lower threshold of allergines. Therefor,
I've actually begun to look into chiropractors or accupunturists specialized in treating kids with allergies.
Good Luck!!!

My son has allergies too and I use Singulair,Benadryl, and Advair or you can always get a Breathing Machine from the Doctor's Office and use it every 3 or 4 hours. It works really good to along with the other meds.

We're using neti pots. I had my son using one (I think he was two when we started.) It doesn't hurt, and it works wonders. The fewer chems in your bodies the better. That way it will stay receptive when you really do need to resort to chems/medicines. I'd also try and use as few chems in the household... they can irritate your sinuses making allergies even harder to deal with. I know the woman below said Melaleuca... the only thing of theirs I like is the Sol-u-mel.. it is AWESOME.. takes Sharpie marker off my tupperware, etc. Other than that... hang on to the vinegar, baking soda, etc. Even Clorox has a green line now.

All 3 of my boys have had terrible allergies. I would highly recommend getting your little one tested. Many allergists shy away from testing babies & toddlers but you can find ones that will. We used Dr. Bob Lanier & loved him! Unfortunately, NOTHING showed up on my boys' allergy tests even though they were exhibiting eczema and having asthma attacks.

It wasn't until we switched over the products we were using in our home (at the recommendation of a friend) that they saw any relief. Now we use things without formaldehyde, bleach, ammonia, phosphates, etc. They have been virtually symptom free for almost a year and a half. It is definitely something to look into! :)

I am a home educator and in my research I have noticed that many children are diagnosed with seasonal allergies or unexplained allergies when in fact they are simply allergic to many things in their personal care and household products such as quaternium 15(formaldehyde and bleach)
When these families convert their homes over to safer alternatives their children's allergies clear up right away. If you would like to learn more about these safer alternatives and how toxin your indoor air quality in your home may actually be visit www.SaferForYourHome.com/Texas or email me.
Good luck,

J.,

You sound like me - I have a 19, 18, 3 1/2 and 2 year old - my 3 1/2 year old was awful. Daniel ended up at 3 getting his adnoids and tonsils out (there was major blockage) but even before that I purchased Oreck's air purifiers and there was a HUGE difference - if the ENT wasnt' concerned about the size I would have left - he no longer snored and we weren't running constantly. I'm from MN and I swear TX is the dustiest state around! I also used the Melaluca products everyone is trying to get you to buy - I'm not saying their not good - their green - vinigar does the same - they won't cure anything.

My son who is 3 now suffered from allergies bad, we tried all kinds of meds and nothing worked at all, when he turned 2 his dr sent him to an allergist, who started him on allergy shots (i know you said you tried this already), but he also said not to use any chems to clean expecially his room and the room he is in the most, no air fresheners or scented candels (expecially in the rooms he is in the most). Also to wipe the walls with warm water once a week, get a matress and pillow cover, no stuffed animals at all, and to wash his blankets and sheets in hot water at least once a week. I did all this and he has gotten so much better, before he would get sick and not even a week after he got better he would be sick again.

It is my understanding (and I might be wrong, but I think this is correct) that antihistimines do not work on small children. Runny nose is caused by a histamine response. In fact, antihistimines were recently banned by the FDA for tiny ones. Check with an allergist. Good luck. My baby is suffering, too.

I don't know which med might be best because everyone is differnt. I can tell you though that if your son got one allergy shot, it won't work. It usually takes someone getting allergy shots for 1-2 years before the body starts to build up a resistance to the allergens. Anyway, I would take your son to see Dr. Gross or Dr. Ruff (same practice by Presby Dallas)...they are two of the top allergy docs in the city (as voted by D Mag and others)...that is who we take our little one to and my hubby sees them also. Hope that helps!

I would really like to visit with you! My son has asthma and in the fall of '06 he was needing breathing treatments almost every day! A friend of mine introduced me to a company that offered all natural cleaners, vitamins, etc. A month after we switched our home over his treatments almost stopped. In the last year he has had maybe 5 breathing treatments. I hope that you will check out my website. tx.ParentsUnited.com

Our little girl has been on Zyrtec and Duradryl. She isn't anymore because I felt like it was going on too long. We now give her a tsp everyday of local honey. I get mine out at "McKinney Days" or 3rd Monday. You can also get it by calling The Honey Pot Store ###-###-####. The couple that own it are very nice. Good Luck!
