I am wondering about the children's museums in our area - opinions on pros and cons for 2-year-olds and their families. Just for an outing. Which ones are worth the drive and money?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. We went to the Kohl Children's Museum in Glenview on Saturday and had a great time.

We love the Children's Museum at Navy Pier. They have room where you can dig for dinosaur bones that my daughter just loves. And Thursday nights from 5-8 are free. The first Monday of every month if free for 15 and under. The Waterways and Kids Town are a lot of fun too.

My mom just bought us a membership to the Kohl's children's museum, & I love her for it! When I used to go, it was in the city, but this one is in Glenview (I live in Palatine, & it's only 20 minutes away). It's bigger & better than I remember. My daughter is 20 months, & she had a blast! It's very low-cost & obviously kid-friendly. There are activities for babies & toddlers all over, & several nursing stations. There's a huge room to leave your strollers, coats, diaper bags, etc., or you can pay for a locker. You should check it out, & if you like it, you can get a membership so either parent, or the grandparents can get in for free. Good luck!

I have heard the Kohl's Museum was good as well. I have a friend who went the the Navy Pier one and she said it was not worth the money and the hassle, but I have not been there myself.

I have a 2 year old and he loves the DuPage Museum in Naperville. I noticed someone mentioned bringing your own lunch, as an FYI this is a really good idea. I expected some sort of food options to be there, but they only have vending machines. I can't wait to try the Children's Museum at Navy Pier as well!

We also really like Dupage Childrens Museum in Naperville. Just an fyi, you may want to bring a change of clothes in case your little one gets really wet at the water table there. They do supply smocks but the kids always seem to get wet anyway. When you kids are a tad older you may want to check out the childrens museum in Rockford as well. Good luck!

DuPage Children's Museum in Naperville. It's not too far, but great! Your 2 yr. old can stay there all day if you let him. They have everything for little ones and older kids. Prices aren't bad and you can leave for lunch and come back. You can also bring your own lunch. You'll have a great time too and it's got a lot for your 6 month old to look at. You should check it out online.
