Hello Mama's,
I am looking to purchase a chest freezer and need recommendations! What freezers would you recommend, brand name and size? I'm looking to purchase a middle size one, maybe 14 cubic feet? Or would you recommend I get bigger? I will be using it to freeze meat's, bread, veggie's and so on. I always buy in bulk especially during the winter or when there are good sales lol! Thanks in advance ladies!

GREAT point Ladybug on the energy saving part! Forgot to mention that as well!

What can I do next?

I'm a lover of Kenmore. My mom has a chest freezer by Kenmore she bought 20 years ago and aside from the lock/handle combo part coming loose (the lock holds it on, but the handle part turns around the lock) that bad boy is still working like it's brand new.

Depends on how much of a 'stocker upper' you what size you might want. 14 cu ft is a pretty decent size freezer in a chest model (if it was upright I'd definitely go a little bigger). One thing to remember ... freezers work best and most efficiently when they are mostly full. If you know you can keep a larger one mostly full most of the time go for it ... if not stick with the smaller one.

Everyone I know who has had kenmore has had them last 15-20 years.

But I think most of the more well known brands would be good. I just have the most experience with Kenmore.

Hi N.-

I second the kenmore recommendation...I 'inherited' my mom's old coppertone (that gives you an idea of the age of it...lol) when my dad retired from the military...she had had it at LEAST 15 years...and it traveled the world with them!! I had it an additional 6 years before it died...It had some 'chips' on the enamel that I tried to cover with spray paint...it looked like a sad leopard when I had to put it to the curb

**sniff**

Best luck!

Whatever you get..... go Frost FREE.

We got a Kenmore because it was FROST FREE and fit nicely in our garage. LOVE it.

I like the chest type because it uses less space in my garage area PLUS... I know it is closed..

I've heard of some families thinking the freexer was closed when in deed it was not and food was spoiled. Not a $$ saver there!!

You'd be better off with a stand up freezer -- they are more energy efficient.
YMMV

I personally don't like chest freezers because it always seems the stuff I want is on the bottom and I have to take everything out to get to it. I have an upright freezer so I can get to whatever I want with ease. I had a little chest freezer that worked really well when I was in an apartment I believe it was an Amana. Size depends on the amount you plan to store so and the size of your family.
