Hi,
My 1 year old just got teeth, 1 on bottom and 1 on top. I feel like I should be feeding him table food, any suggestions? I want it to be healthy, I don't want him to be eating a lot of salt.
Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions! We are trying little by little to introduce our food to him in little bites. I just bought a food processor/chopper and I will be using that at first I guess! My son also loves the puffs and the carrot wheels! I guess its pretty much common sense but I'm the nervous mommy! :) Thanks again!

My son started his "true" solids (table food), with sweet potatoes, we then did mashed potatoes, cooked carrot wheels, basically the baby food items only in real people versions. He does love the "Gerber Puffs" as someone mentioned earlier. He gobbles bananas to no end. When we wanted to try new stuff for breakfast, we did pancakes, then scrambled eggs... We offered little bits of chicken for dinner and we give him bites of what we eat. Gerber Graduates puts out a "Ravioli" that he would readily eat. He would fuss from time to time over the new items, but it really just depended upon where he was eating (yes-my son would gobble items at my house, but absolutely refuse them at grandma's).

Good luck on your adventures in eating! (My son's 14 months and we're still trying new items-it was little bites of a tuna fish sandwich and cantaloupe for lunch with applesauce as a snack...). Last night it was a Lean Cuisine (less salt than most types) of turkey and rice w/ veggies. Keep reading those labels!

I watch my 11 month old grandsons and I started off with fresh fruit when they only had their two bottom teeth. They absoulutly love rotisserie chicken and feed themselves. It's juices and tender and i just break it up and they gobble it down. I fixed them sausage link, hashbrowns and scrambled eggs and they left no mess and they fed themselves. These boys are small because their mom only weighed 98 pounds when she got prg. and was 4 ft something but they love to eat and I love watching them eat. They also love rice of anykind. I love cooking them new things and they don't mind the variety either. I just watch the amount of season I cook with for them.

Oh and they love yogurt. I haven't given them chochalate or candy nor do I intend to any time soon. Nothing but healthy food for my precious babies.

Good luck to you.

I start with Cherios since they dissolve easy. I buy these veggies at walmart in one serving portions. They come in little microwavable cups. They are diced too! You can get carrots, peas and green beans. Since they are soft, my daughter hasn't had any trouble with them. I put them on her tray, and encourage her to feed herself. Oh, and yoplait sells these larger size containers of yogurt at walmart too. No seeds or anything. I think it's less expensive since they are only $2. Mine last about a week with 3 kids eating it. I guess I'm just saying to try a variety of foods :)Good luck!

Hi M.~ My son loved those fruit and veggie puffs that they sell in the baby food isle. We called him a puff a holic. Grahm crackers are always a hit with kids. My son had some eating issues and the ot had us ad some grahm crackers crumbled up to applesauce to introduce him to textures. I am sure you are already giving fruits. Bannans and the melons are a hit with my kids. Good luck!

With only 2 teeth stick with the baby food. My 18 month old has 14 teeth, and mostly eats table food, but sometimes still eats babyfood because of his 7 month old brother. I'm glad he does sometimes too, because I'm not the best when it comes to making sure there are veggies on the table. Plus he doesn't care for the texture of regular cooked veggies.

Our son LOVED Cheerios, fruit, toast, pasta - anything he could use his fingers with. Try lots and lots of different tastes, and remember, it may (and many times does) take up to 10 times of trying something before your child will eat a new food. Good luck.

Don't add more than 1/2 tsp. of salt to any of your recipes.
