My 10-month-old hasn't wanted to eat baby food for about a month now. He LOVES Yo, Baby yogurt, waffles, pancakes, goldfish baby crackers, grapes (cut up in small pieces), raisins, Cheerios, bananas (again, cut up), animal crackers, cheese, avocados, oatmeal, real fruit juices diluted with water, toast, applesauce, diced apples with no skin, canned peaches (or fresh), fruit cocktail (drained), sugar free Popsicles, soup-I've given him the healthy request chicken noodle and rice and stars, Graduates pasta pick up's and lil' meats, etc. He will also eat fresh green beans, peas and steamed rice. I didn't want to give him mac n' cheese until he was older, but he smelled mine, had a bite and he loves that too.
If I think of any more as I feed him, I'll post again. He LOVES to feed himself now! It's good practice, but boy is it messy!
Just don't forget no egg whites until the baby is 1! Also, no honey, no strawberries, no peanut butter or fish before 1. I didn't know about the eggs before age 1 and my son had an ambulance ride to the ER. No nuts either. Also, I wouldn't feed the baby anything you or his daddy are allergic too, until the baby is at least 1. When you're starting new foods, it's best to only offer 1 new food every 3 or 4 days, that way, if there IS any type of reaction/allergy-you will be able to pin point which food it was. Oh yea, and no cow's milk until after the 1st birthday. I still give mine yogurt (which has dairy in it), but I don't offer straight milk yet. They can be allergic to that and it can make them too full, to where they don't want to eat food. Another reason they don't want us to give them milk before age 1 is a lot of parents will get rid of the formula and just give the milk, there is not enough iron in the milk and their digestive systems are not ready for it.
