You can put baby vapo rub on his chest and the bottom of his feet to help with congestion and a stuffy nose. You can also put a vaporizer in his room with EUCALUPTUS in the water.

Unfortunately, you can't give him any medicine unless the doctor prescribes something. Any juice he likes is fine, lots of water too. Also, if you don't already, give him vitamins. Try to get him to eat but a lot of time they don't have much of an appetite. Just keep him happy and good luck!

I would call pediatrican first leave a message have doc call you back and let him or her know that you are worried and not sure what to do.. wait for response and see and make appt next day. your child may have swimmers ear.. it happened to my daughter..
from the bath... water in ear.. but, no fever all the same symptoms.. I did have to get antibiotics for her..
May be teething also.. Tylenol.. would be a good idea.. I would really just call my pediatrician. Pedialyte as well..
Coughing could be from the teething the drooling going down throat and she doesn't know how to clear it like we can as adults.. Good luck.. barb g.

My 3 1/2 month old dd and 22 month old ds have the same symptoms. Went to the doctor and I'm giving dd tylenol and ds motrin. It seems to help a little with the coughing and a whole lot with the crankiness. Try putting your lO to sleep with head slightly elevated to help breathe.

My 19 month old had the same symptoms while we were on vacation. We looked for cough meds for toddlers and NONE were acceptable for children her age or younger. We bought a humidifier which seemed to make her breathing much more comfortable and eased the cough.
We got a really good aspirator which she HATED, but sucked out the loose mucus from her nose morning and night and she learned to accept it.
The humidifier is a must if you have dry heat in your home. I find that I am even uncomfortable at night without it. My throat gets dry and sticky and I wake up several times a night to drink water or cough. Imagine what the little ones are feeling.
Good luck!

Hello G.:

More information would be needed to freely suggest a remedy. My suggestion is to consult with a qualified practitioner who can appropriately assist your son. I recently assisted a mother whose son has the flu by setting up a healthcare protocol to purify the environment, along with assisting the child. By addressing both, the issue is taken care of. You may need to do the same.

If you would like to schedule a private session with me, please call me at ###-###-#### or email me at ____@____.com.

Hi G.,

At that age it is always best to check with your doctor but my granddaughter just had the same symptons but also with a fever. She didn't have a the flue but rather a cold with a fever. My daughter was told to use the humidifier in her room & give her tylenol. She skipped the solids for awhile & just gave her formula. Good luck & I hope he feels better soon.

You can try propping up the mattress in the crib by placing a pillow underneath it. That will help your little one breathe a bit easier. My Dr said it is ok to give elderberry syrup to my 1yo. It has great vitamins etc. and can help prevent flu and colds. You can buy it in the health food section of most grocery stores. I have a recipe for making it that I can give to you if you want. My pediatrician looked over the recipe and said it's ok. I have to admit though that I think these little colds just have to run their course so it's best to focus on keeping him comfortable--lots of extra hugs and kisses too!

I recently discovered a tincture of ecinechia (sp?). I bought it at a health food and natural supplement store, great because it is a liquid. Good to give children at the beginning of a cold.
As far as food to give, anything vitamin C and lots of food. My son always gives up eating while he's sick which draws the whole thing out :(
Good luck!

Oranges, OJ and strawberries have lots of vitamin c. My one year old will eat bits of orange if break them into small enough bits. The humidifier is helpful. So is a nasal aspirator. For thick mucus there are saline drops you can use before aspirating.

I do give my 1 year old daughter OTC cold medicine in a dosage appropriate for her size. She has extra narrow nasal passages and has a hard time with colds and congestion. I use Triaminic and she gets 1 ml every 6 hours up to 3 doses in 24 hours (for comparison a 6-12 year old gets 1 teaspoon, which is 5 ml, every 4-6 hours up to 4 doses in 24 hours). I did consult with the pediatrician before giving her the medication. This OTC medication was the same active ingredients as a prescription cold medication (decongestant and antihistamine) my daughter had been prescribed before. I go to a large practice and opinions on decongestants for babies vary--there have been problems with OTC cold medications for babies and they were taken off the market maybe 1-2 years ago (they were available until my 4 year old was about 2.5). Some doctors will prescribe them for babies/toddlers and some won't. So talk to your pediatrician and see how you and the doctor feel about it. I find it helps a lot at night if the baby is too uncomfortable to sleep well. I hope your little one is feeling better soon.
