What Do You Put on Your Shelf in Kid's Room?

**Updated: I was basically asking what everyone puts on hooks underneath their shelves...sorry I didn't specify. I have things on the top (her name in letters, picture frames, nick nacks, etc) but don't know what to hang on the hooks. The shelf is very high so it would not encourage kids to climb up to try and reach it as it's very high above the crib, however, with the crib being there, I still have a hard time leaning over it to put clothes up/take them down.**

I have a pink shelf in my daughter's room on which I put her name (letters) and a few nick nacks. What I can't figure out is what to put on the rungs (6 of them) under the shelf. I used to just hang clothes or jackets, but now the crib is under it so I can't reach that well. Any ideas on baskets or bags to hang on a shelf to use for storage? I considered a diaper stacker since we'll be having baby #2 in a few months and they'll share a room and the storage space as is!! I just feel like the shelf is barren on the bottom!

One idea I have is to move her name (in wooden letters) from the opposite wall to the rungs but this would leave large holes in the wall so not sure about that?

What can I do next?

When my daughters were young we hung a beaded necklace (folk art style) candles with wicks that were not cut (2 hooked together). If I were you I'd go to a craft store and wander the isles looking for something cute to hang, something else that comes to mind is a cute pair of baby shoes. Maybe a small framed picture hung with a ribbon, there are endless possibilities.

Good Morning Carla, I am not sure what you are describing as to your shelves, we put stuffed animals on the shelves in gr son's rooms, toys they do not play with often or are to young to have yet.

If you moved her name letters, you could put hooks or pegs in the holes to hang jackets, hats, or a net holder for Animals.

Just a few suggestins as I don't really know what your shelves actually look like. Sorry Carla hope something helped a tad bit...lol
God Bless you and yours, Congrats on your soon to be Angel

I didn't have anything hanging on the rungs until they got older and earned ribbons and medals. Now those are hanging on the rungs but before that they were just plain and used the shelf. If you really want something there you can hang a swag of flowers and the rungs will hold them in the shelf. Or hang candles for accent. If your daughter wears hair bows. You can take a ribbon and clip the bows on the ribbons and hang the ribbon of bows from the rungs.

You really don't have to have anything hanging from them.

Hi Carla, I ,too, was a little confused as to what they are, but it doesn't matter too much. If they are hooks, then you can hang things like a princess dress on a nice cloth hanger or a couple of those round firm tiarras. My daughter now has two from being in her Aunts' weddings. If they are shelves you can put small picture frames, candles that look nice, but that will never get lit (just for decor), little articles of clothing that she wore as a baby that you loved but didn't want to get rid of (socks, onsie, cute t'shirt that says something). Maybe small books, unless it's out of reach for you.

If it's out of reach for her you can do lots of things like momentos.

Happy deciding!

Melanie

I'd go for stuffed animals! My only concern would be...since it's over the crib, would this encourage climbing up to get the goodies??? (Both my sons were climbers.)

I think my vote goes for moving it to another wall & touching up those leftover holes. (or cover them up with a soft wall hanging or fun poster.
