Hi Mamas,

My baby is going to be two in a few weeks and I am trying to figure out what to get him for his birthday. This is my second child, but my first boy, so we have lots of toys. We have tons of Legos and blocks of all kinds, crayons, stickers and playdough. We also have a lot of puzzles. He has a train table, but likes to play with Little People stuff on it, so he really isn't into the trains yet. He does seem to like Matchbox cars and we have a few, but are there fun accessories for them that he might like? Any other thoughts? We got him a ride on toy (motorized) for Christmas and he has a Cozy Coupe too, so we have some outdoor toys, but if you have other suggestions there, that would be great too. Thanks in advance for your help! I am clueless when it comes to little boys. It seems I am naturally drawn to the girl's toy aisles at the store! Haha!

What can I do next?

well my son, actually both my kids, got a Leapster at that age, and LOVED it. And they could indeed use it at that age. It also grows with them and is educational and not just another "toy." It is useful.
My son is now 3.5 and my daughter is 7, and they STILL use it. Frequently. Its fun and teaches them things.

good luck,
Susan

lol it seems as though he has everything already! but i got my son crayons and coloring books because he starting wanting to write and i felt it would also help start wanting to color and write even more. but be warned you will have to help with the up keep pf the crayons.but you canalso use that as a tool to start keeping up and maintaining his belongings. my son also wanted a play vaccum wiht the eyes that move( i think that's a unisex toy). a little basketball hoop, or a toddler teeball set. leapfrog toys also(funa nd educational and you can never start to soon). hope that helps. good luck

My son turned 2 in March, and his most favorite activity is playing in the water table! He'll play with the boats, and squirt toys for 1-2 hours at a time before wanting to come inside! I absolutely love it. Ours has a large umbrella you can attach for shade!

He may be a bit young, but my kids love the smart cycle. If you think your child would get it, the smart cycle is a lot of fun!

When my son was 2, he had a Ty Pillow Pals leopard that he took with him everywhere. We gave him my old spring bouncy horse (my grandfather gave it to me on my first birthday - my mother saved it and passed it on to my son - now we're saving it for when he has a family someday). Well, he couldn't get enough of that bouncy horse. But he didn't want to put his leopard down while he rode it. So he held the tail in his mouth while he bounced happily away! We have a picture him doing this and it's priceless!

I have a 19 month old and he is in to all sorts of different things. He loves the toy vacuums, toy lawn mowers, loves to dress up (right now in big sister's dress up shoes and princess gowns so I guess we need to start looking for prince capes and stuff :-). One thing I think we are going to get him for his 2nd birthday is a tool bench. I think Black and Decker makes a really good one for kids. Our Tuesday Morning has a car that you work on and rebuild the engine (and all that manly stuff) but thaat may be fun. I know my guy is always attempting to figure out out something is working.

My son is about to be three in July but over the past year he was really into tools and fixing stuff so I got him this Handy Manny tool box at Christmas time with all the tools in it and when you push a button they sing and dance. For his two year old birthday I got him this blow up splash land and put it out on the front lawn, because he just loved running in the sprinkler. You just hooked it up to the garden hose and water came shooting up out of it. I let he and all the little kids at the party play on it, they had a blast. He has also always been into sports so any kind of football, basketball basically any type of ball is good. I know you said you have lots of colors etc, do you have any kind of standing easel the kids can stand and draw on? I have seen them at the IKEA on 1-10 and Silber for about $15. Pretty much any kid likes that. I think I am going to get my son one for his bday this year. Well that is all I can think of right now, good luck and have fun:)

I have 2 boys with very different personalities. The common denominator was Disney's Cars. I have one that is 2 and he loves Lightning McQeen. He has some of the cars, many books, and a matching game that he loves… The cars are fun to collect and are great for Potty training rewards. If you consider going with the matchbox cars they have things like a little car wash that we play with a lot. You use it with a cup of water...loads of fun for him. (many of the cars characters do not work in the matchbox accessories-they are too wide). The matchbox race tracks looked a little complicated for him so we tried the Chuck's race track and love it. Cars works with Chucks, but the police station, fire station, etc. are NOT great-the ramps fall off too easily. If he likes little people and cars, the next step might be the Wow Cars. They have little guys you can put in them and the way they zoom around is pretty neat. I've only seen them at the Learning Express-which by the way is an awesome store for great gifts!
Honestly, for my kids' second birthdays we gave them potty seats and an Elmo Potty's video. I know, fun right? We played around with it and made it fun until he decided he really wanted to try. We haven't broken it out for the other one yet. Good luck!

I've been on vacation, so I hope this isn't too late.

My 2 yr old LOVES "Apple Grove Pals" by Little Tikes. Each animal has it's own hat. He loves to put their hats on and off and mix and match them. The "Heros" set is the best I think, but the Pancake one's good too (http://www.littletikes.com/toys/apple-grove-pals-friends-.... The book that goes with "Breaking News" makes absolutely no sense to me - it's the only one that I'd not buy if I could go back in time.
