Put things where they belong when you're done with them, if you possibly can. Saves time and energy when you start the cleaning.

If your house is 2-story, a basket at the top and bottom of the stairs to collect what needs to go up or down all day. Then just make 1 trip at the end of the day and put away everything in the basket.

Looks organized, and saves 100 trips up and down the steps for every little thing.

Use your grandmother's products. Vinegar, ammonia and baking soda mixed with water to wash just about everything. Cheaper and better for the environment.

Never mix ammonia and bleach.

That's two, but I couldn't help writing the second item.

Eliminate all clutter. The more you have, the more you have to clean. I also agree with "never leave the room empty handed"

I keep one of those sponges with a handle/tube attached hanging in my shower. The tube is filled with 1/2 dawn dish soap, and 1/2 white vinegar.

Every time I take a shower, I wash down one wall while I am in there. I never have to scrub it. :)

Clean as you go. (When you get up, make your bed. After brushing teeth, wipe counter and sink, don't eat your breakfast until the cereal, milk etc is put away. Throw a load of laundry in the washing machine first thing in the morning. Keep cleaning supplies below each sink in the house, have a vacuum on each floor.) Cleaning is easy if everything is straightened and put away.

Before you leave the house, or go to bed, or sit down for a good read, set the timer for 15 minutes. Quickly do everything you can to clean or organize your rooms, as if someone important to you were coming to visit. Put items away, toss laundry in the laundry room, toss the day old news, empty the sink completely, wipe down counters and swifter floors. It's absolutely amazing what order you can bring to the house. And an orderly house is so much easier to keep clean.

Keep a trigger spray bottle of vinegar water under the kitchen and bathroom sinks with a cleaning rag draped over the top. When you see spots, spills, or any mess -- squirt and wipe.

I have a duster wand that looks like a dust mop. I love this thing it quickly cleans up dust, can be shaken out or washed in washer and only costs a $1. The are available at both Family Dollar and Dollar Tree.

I also keep a small whisk broom with dust pan attached under the bathroom sink. A quick sweep with this little broom keeps the area around the litter box clean.

Teach your kids how to vacuum and dust by doing half of the room in front of them, and then handing over the supplies and having them do the rest.

Turn on music while you're cleaning. It makes it much more fun when you can dance your way through it.

Great question! I blogged about this a while ago at www.AskBarbilee.com.

Here is my tip: We do a 10 minute tidy every day – we put on 3 – 4 really fun fast songs, we set the time and we each pick a space to “clean” – cupboards, walls, floors, sweeping, dusting, clean out the fridge – whatever – then we just do it – but only for 10 mins. It is fun, fast and every day we get 40 mins of house work in (I have a family of 4). No more struggling to keep the house clean.

Use newspaper to clean glass/windows/mirrors. It sounds weird, but you will have no streaks or left over fibers - just crystal clear glass. (your hands may get dirty from handling the newspapers).

I clean a little every day (dishes, wipe down kitchen counters, wipe
sinks).
When I walk through the house or to the back of the house, I pick up &
take toys, clothes, shoes, purses, hats etc back with me to put away.
(My youngest isn't the always the messiest culprit....most of the times it's
hubby. Lol).
Put things away in their respective places (scissors, tape, notepads etc) so you can always find them.
Vacuum every 2 or 3 days.
Dust, sweep once a week.
I make it a habit to take the trash out when it's full rather than relying on
hubby to do it. It's one of his jobs but I like to get rid of the smelly over-
filled trash cans.
A load of laundry every day or every other day.
