It is not preschool. It is parttime babysitting to give moms a break.
It has less educational benefits and less stringent requirements for employement.
Can anyone fill me in?

No its not just babysitting. All programs are different. I have used 3 different mothers day out programs and taught at one many many years ago. All of the ones I have used have a preschool setting (most do). My DD goes to one now 2 days a week from 8:30 to 2. She works on letters numbers does faith based workbooks, they have craft time and group time. Very little "free play" is involved. My DD has benefited very much from MDO programs. If you find one you are interested in go by and ask what their daily schedule looks like and what cirriculum they use. Chances are they are not just babysitters. I pay tuition every month (160.00) and you have to be registered and enrolled. It give my daughter a chance to socialize with kids and I can get some time to take care of the mommy stuff. It is like part time preschool. Almost all MDO programs are thru a church so just start calling churches in your area and ask if they have a program. I have found that the bigger churches offer a better and more organized program. Let me know if you want more info.
i had the same Q ? does it cost ???? where do i look for such place daycares?
its just a drop in daycare for a few hrs so you can go shopping or whatever.
Our MDO program is for 2 days a week for 5 hours a day. My daughter is in a 18 months to 2 year old class. They do a lot of arts and crafts, have story time, play time, outdoor time, go over colors, shapes, etc. I love that I can get time to myself to get things done, without worrying about looking after my daughter, as she gets into everything and is still putting everything in her mouth and she will be 2 next month. Besides, that, I don't know if it's just because she is getting older, but since she's been in this program she is a better listener and follows directions much better.
It's usually a once per week half day hosted by a church or local rec center where moms can drop off their young kids and go run errands, go to the doctor -do something that's better done without children and have a break. Most places charge, but some don't. Some places also offer it two or three times per week. This isn't to be confused with an actual half-day preschool where kids have a curriculum, schedule and are enrolled and paying tuition. MMO is usually just a big playtime with maybe some crafts or something thrown in.
