Aquaphor.

My daughter always had the nastiest chapped lips. I had to take her to the dermatologist for something else and I thought to ask about her lips. The doctor recommended Aquaphor. Her lips were completely better overnight. Now she puts it on every night before bed.

I was going to say Lansinoh. The stuff for cracked nipples. The dentist recommended it for my kids BUT when I reread your question, I noticed that you are allergic to Carmex. Lansinoh is pure lanolin and Carmex has lanolin in it. Don't go there just in case you are allergic to the lanolin in the Carmex.

Aquaphor is GREAT!! At Walmart, they had some in a little tube with all the chapsticks. Handy for the purse. Not sure if it has lanolin, though.

Edit:
If you wear lipstick, you may be allergic to it. I am VERY allergic to some lipsticks and they make my lips peel. I LOVE L'OREAL Color Riche. It doesn't bother my lips at all!! I have about 5 tubes of my favorite color! :)

My aesthetician AND my dermatologist both told me that Burts Bees is TERRIBLE for your lips and that one of the components in it is a drying agent (the peppermint oil). I also use aquaphor and I swear by that stuff. It's so good for so many things.

I use Burt's Bees. All natural bees wax and mint. It can tingle on severely chapped lips, though.

To Amy E. Burt's Bees is just bees wax, coconut oil, and herbs. NOTHING drying in that.

Avoid any kind of lip balm - they are addictive, meaning the more you use them, the more you need them.

Best thing is to use pure lanolin. Your lips will be healed overnight!

Stay hydrated....drink lots of water. Plain old vitamin e oil before you go to bed, and Care Deeply from Avon ( even though I think it tastes nasty) during the day.
Hope it gets better, mine get bad if my lips are exposed to really cold weather, so much better since we moved from Wisconsin.

I love my Burt's Bees. No alcohol in it like Chapstick.

Another idea, if your lips are really bad, would be to exfoliate them with an exfoliant (a facial scrub would work, or Mary Kay sells a 'satin lips' set which is amazing, no I don't sell it). Exfoliate them, then put on a good rich lip balm like the mary kay stuff or Burts Bees.

(Back to the Mary kay thing - one time I did the scrubbing part of 'satin lips' and then put on the step 2 lip balm. My mom said "oh that's a pretty lipstick on you' right when I was done. I told her "Um, no lipstick. I just scrubbed the dead skin off the top of my lips. :)")

i like burts bees. or try other all natural products as they might be gentler on sensitive skins. also adding extra virgin olive oil to your diet might keep your skin hydrated. heck you could just dab a bit of the oil on your lips. sounds like its more a health issue than just chapped lips if its on going over time.

Since your lips aren't actually chapped and seem to be more inflamed--based on your description--you might want to check what you're eating or drinking that's coming through your saliva. The skin of the lips is so thin and fragile that the slightest thing makes a difference. It could be an allergy

Have you tried the Burt's Bees lip balm? It comes in several versions, even tinted ones which are nice natural looks instead of lipstick.
But if you want to get rid of the chapped lips, the best advice we got was to take a B vitamin supplement. My daughter had terribly chapped lips, especially in the winter, and she started taking a vitamin B daily and it went away never to return! We use the Central Market Extreme Stress B which should be at the H-E-B, but any one should do the job.
Good Luck!

I use Burts Bees tinted gloss and love it.

If they are horrible, try vitamin e oil? It worked wonders on a couple of scars and is great. Might not taste so great.

Good luck

good ole' honey; YES, put honey directly on your lips and let it soak in. So, before bed would be good. It is natural and really does work. In fact, depending on how chapped they are, you could probably do this a few times a day for a couple of days and they shoudl be better and possibly use less vaseline.

I had this problem earlier this summer & called my dermatologist. She said to use vaseline for 10 days and to also stop using whitening toothpaste. She said sometimes we can develop sensitivity to the ingredient in the toothpaste & it can manifest with dry lips. Worked for me. Eventually, I was able to use my reg. toothpaste & lip balm again.

Dr. Oz recommended Shea Butter for moisturizing lips.

one of the top products recommended for scoriasis.
Good luck.

I use Soft Lips, but vaseline is about the same. I just like it because you can get it with a slight tint so it makes me feel a little more put together. They come two in a pack and last forever.

I remember seeing something about tea bags for lips on Dr. Oz so I looked it up: "Constance White told her that she can replace all of these Chapped Lip products with a Green Tea Bag! You just dip the tea bag in warm water, put it on your lips, and it helps severely dry or chapped lips. Dr Oz said that the polyphenols in the Green Tea Bag soothe inflamed tissue and help to heal your chapped lips. Just rest the Green Tea Bag on your lips, suck on it and have a cup of tea afterward!"
I have allergy problems with lib balm too...I'm ok if I open one and use it every day, but if it sits without me using it for a while, then I will have a reaction like you describe...not sure if the lip balm develops bacteria or what....haven't been able to figure it out, so I've given up on lip balms.

I also would recommend Burts Bees, it's a little more expensive than other brands but it lasts forever and it really works. But if you are allergic to bees or beeswax then I wouldn't suggest it. Not sure what is in Carmex that makes you allergic. They also have tinted lipgloss that keeps your lips soft and give them a little color and sparkle.
