Hey Moms!

I have been throwing darts on a dart board and looking at blog after blog. Then I realized that I have no idea what I'm looking for! What do you like about your favorite bloggers that keeps you coming back for more? Is it video, audio, questions and answers...? I launched my new blog this week and before I set a pattern in place I really need to know what makes a blog worth reading. Thanks for any feedback you may have. I'd love to read your favorites so leave the links, won't you?

So What Happened?

Amazing feedback from everyone! It sounds like I am on the right track. My blog incorporates alot of what you all like. Everything I have learned from and loved in the course developing a business and a baby at home is going up there. It has the elements of personal touch, professional expertise, case studies, audio and video. It is simple and is taking shape quite nicely. So thanks so much! You are helping me to see that I am as quirky and unusual as I need to be. So what's all that talk about special needs anyway? We all have them! :)

I started my blog b/c I couldn't find any homemade baby food recipes online that were really interesting and healthy. It grew into a website that hopefully inspires parents to try to get kids to eat better providing original daily recipes and cooking videos for babies, kids and parents (and make life easier on themselves at the same time)!

I too started my blog, www.yourlifevents.com after I became a Mom. I was also a wedding and event planner who wanted to provide tips and tricks to all people celebrating their life events. I realized that while you could go to a wedding blog, or a dating site, or a Mom blog, there weren't any good lifestyle blogs out there that incorporated everything. I obviously love weddings and parties, but we also love DIY crafts for kids as well as parenting information (hence why I love Mamapedia so much). I work with my Mom on our blog, so it's a lot of fun to still be able to create and give to people too. I think that's what people are looking for - information, advice & tips that provides them with what they need at a certain stage in their life.

I can't wait to check out all these great blogs listed in this post.

I like reading my friends blogs and food blogs and a few mommy/family blogs. Maybe I'm a chef at heart? HA! Some of my favorites are
http://ourbestbites.com
http://thepioneerwoman.com
http://melskitchencafe.com
http://picky-palate.com
http://theidearoom.blogspot.com
http://simplemom.net
and mine is http://marcroftfam.blogspot.com if you want to see mine :) I mostly use it as my mommy journal! The boys love looking at it. I use Microsoft Live Writer (a free blogging program from Microsoft) which is so easy to use!! :)

I've been blogging since 2005. I blog about life in general. If people read, great. If they don't, great. If they don't like what I have to say, they can click the little red x and close the window.
Write what interests you.
I read people I find interesting, or funny, or like minded. I've come to really care about these people (some whom I've never met). Their lives, their children, their trials and tribulations, their joys and disappointments - we've connected. We are an online community.
So - write what you know.
Don't write for anyone but yourself.
YMMV

I follow several blogs, some are political in nature to keep updated on gov't elections, some are spiritual in nature to inspire me to keep going, some are practical like recipes, crafting ideas, some are more business centered. There is pretty much a blog on every topic under the sun. Some people actually write and manage a several blogs themselves.

What makes a good blog? Original content. Some people copy and paste, which can get people in trouble with copyright laws.
Original content is the way to go, make it interesting, have a sense of humor and network with other bloggers, and blogging networks.

A good site: http://blogsearch.google.com/
Type in a topic and you'll find a blog on it.

I'm in the same boat as Ladybug! Blogging reminds me a lot of dating! I'll follow blogs of people I find interesting and funny! If I get a useful insight, great! But if I just get a good laugh, that's great too! I'm attracted to mommyblogs, because that's what my life is about! I've been blogging for about 2 months now, and I love it! I just write what's on my mind. If people like it, they follow, if not they don't return! That's how it would be anyway!

Good luck!

For me it really depends on the type of blog. I prefer blogs the give out helpful information. For example, the one blog I have bookmarked is http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/ I love the recipes she posts. They taste great and are super easy to make.

Other things I like in a blog are nice clean templates that aren't too distracting. I like the ones like I have at my blog, you can check it out at www.makemoneyonline.tonoftips.net I tend to immediately leave blogs that have too much going on regardless of the information they have.

I like mom blogs, financial health blogs, fashion blogs, and pop culture blogs...so a blog that incorporates all that is great! Product reviews, giveaways, tips and tricks and of course just life and humor are what I look for.

I never thought I'd start a blog. I always thought it was a bit narcissistic but now I know better. It's a great creative outlet. I started my blog several months ago and it's been fun! Good luck!

I have never 'blogged' in my life. What would make me want to start? I guess if it were something I could relate to - relationships, being a mom, crazy college life . . . . Sorry. I hope many more posters post an answer for you!

I only read the blog of a good old friend who lives far away now, and occasionally a very good food/recipe blog.
