What Should I Bring to the Hospital? - Orlando,FL

Same as the first time around. Cozy socks, pants that I like to lounge in, movies I'll want to watch.
We brought nothing for the baby with my second one. Took her home in the hospital outfit, and took the diapers/wipe from the bassinett they provided us. We were formula feeding, so we took that as well.

So really, just take what you need. Shower stuff and all that, too.

Then just enjoy!

LOL @ Melissa J, my BFF would NOT let me go to have my son without taking a pair of her fuzzy socks, HAHA!

Bring a coloring book and crayons :) It's great for whatever down time you'll get!! I made sure I packed that with all 3 kiddos, and the nurses liked having their station decorated with my (stupid) pictures ;)

Pretty sure they hung them up to be nice, but still, kept me busy, LOL!!

I brought a comfy nightgown that I could wear once the hospital gown was no longer needed. I spent four days in the hospital, just took my body that long to recover (had low oxygen level in my blood, took a day longer for the area cut to create a scab)... I also brought DVDs to watch, book, would have brought a laptop if we had one at the time, cell phone, camera, extra panties, baggy clothes to wear out of the hospital, 5-7 outfits for the new baby (some hospitals have some you can use but I wanted the cute pink baby outfits), if breastfeeding any cream you prefer if you plan on using it, bobby. If your other child will be hanging out any amount of time have things for that child to do what every age apporiate activities that child enjoys, as well as snacks for the child.

First off.... congratulations!!

I had 2 scheduled c-sections.... I brought very comfy clothes (that you won't be upset about if they get messed up - accidents happen!), because the sooner you are out of bed moving around, the sooner you feel better!! (don't listen to them tell you that you have to stay in bed 24 hours.... I was out of bed walking the halls 2 hours after my son was born!), nursing bra and nursing tanks (if you plan to breastfeed), my boppy, slippers with a rubber sole (again.... walking around is the best thing to do to start feeling better, supporting undergarments (not a girdle, but something to support the incision (the hanging skin kind of pulls on the incision)

The best thing I brought was the Boppy. It really helped with nursing and even just holding my son when it was hard to move after my C-section.

I also had to send my husband home to get me flip flops (in December!) because my feet were so swollen they didn't fit in my shoes.

I didn't use anything else I brought except my pair of really stretchy pants to go home in. We used all the hospital's baby stuff including baby shirts and swaddling blankets.

Congratulations! I see you've already gotten some great lists. My big thing to bring would be those super-comfy fuzzy socks. My feet always get really cold in hospitals & since you'll probably be in the bed for at least a 24-hour stretch, warm socks could help make you a lot more comfortable.

loose clothing for you. if baby is going to be in your room the whole time bring clothes for baby if you want. camera, activity booklet, chargers, contact list of people you want to call.

I, too, had an in planned c-section, then a planned one...although, my 2nd came before my schedules date.
You realt don't need much at the hospital. I wore the hospital gown & socks. I brought a robe, which was nice. Then a change of clothes to go home in. Something big & loose b/c you'll be sore. As far as the baby goes, mine wore what the hospital provided. They have everything there that your baby will need as far as diapers, etc. then of course, an outfit for her to wear home. For my friends w/girls, they brought tons of bows, different outfits, etc. I have boys.
Then you'll need your toiletries. My hospital has shampoo & soap. I brought my razor, hair straightener, make-up, deodorant, & that's it. My hospital has toothbrushes & tooth paste.
Also, don't forget your still camera & video camera, along w/extra batteries & chargers.
Cell phone & charger.
Laptop to upload &/or email photos of your baby.
I think that should cover it.

The best things that I brought were my robe and thick, soft socks. Don't forget your camera, video camera, a notebook (to write down the names of helpful nurses and leave them nice thank you notes), and your laptop if you have one.

Haven't looked at the others so sorry for repeats:

thick warm socks or house shoes (hospital room floors are hard and cold!!)
Night gown (no pants, c-section bleeding SUCKS)
Panties, lots of them (I hated those sorry excuses for panties the hospital provided)
Pads, heavy-duty ones, and lots of them (the hospital ones are huge!)
body spray, because they won't let you shower for a while after the surgery!
hair brush, tooth brush
Travel size shampoo, conditioner, soap
snacks, for you AND for hubby
cash for the cafeteria & vending machines
camera, video cam
pillows (hospital pillows... ugh)
books/magazines/ipod
birth announcements to fill out in the hospital gives you something to do

That's all I can think of for now!

Don't forget to charge your cell phone the night before, bring some change for the pop machine, and don't forget breast pads!!!!!! Also don't forget the baby book so they can put the footprints in there!

Don't bring a whole lot! They will be "checking you" constantly, so wear their gowns and those lovely mesh undies. Let them throw everything out when you leave... you have the next 6-8 weeks to wash out your undies. Enjoy those three days!I way over-packed the first time, so this time I'll be bringing the small suitcase!

Thing TO bring:
- Socks (my feet were freezing after the epidural wore off)
- Flip flops to walk around in and shower in
- Warm bathrobe
- Your toiletries and make-up (that first shower is pure heaven)
- outfit to go home for baby
- outfit (no elastic near the incision) for you to wear home
- camera and cell phone with chargers
- Baby book
- Snacks and bottled water for your husband (you can't eat, but he may be waiting for a while)
- Magazines to read while baby slept
- Quarters and singles for vending machines
- If your husband will be sleeping there, a pillowcase and blanket for him. The "futon" was uncomfortable enough... no need to add scratchy linens to the mix!

Keep in mind that the hospital "provides" things with a price tag. It's not free stuff they give you. It's highly inflated and guess what? What insurance doesn't pay, you get to pay for it so bring your own diapers and wipes and make sure to tell the hospital that you have your own stuff. Bring your own shampoo, conditioner, lotions, etc. I brought two sleep jammies for my baby, going home outfit for baby and me, camera, receiving blanket for car ride home (though most hospitals "give" you one when the baby is born anyway), my makeup, breast pads (in case your milk comes in before you go home), brush, hair clip for myself, a pen and journal to write special things (like special things I didn't want to forget), cell phone AND charger, flip flops to wear when you have to begin walking the halls (I don't like wearing my slippers on the hospital floors). You don't need much and whatever you have forgotten, I am sure a friend (or spouse??) can bring you whatever you need. Having a c-section, planned or not, is not really different from each other (I've had 2 unplanned, and 2 scheduled)....good luck with your delivery. And congrats!
