What Should We Expect to Pay?

For my infant I paid a grandma $125.00/wk plus I brought my own food and diapers. But it was worth it!! You will find daycares (in home) charge 150-175/week. Good luck.

I was a nanny and would say the pay rate is around 10-12/hour. The more you pay the more the better selection of nannies you will get.

Hi G., congratulations on your baby! I could do it a hundred times and never tire of it (except for the pain part, lol).

I do inhome childcare in Apple Valley and am unlicensed. For 40 hours per week, I would charge $125. I'm not as expensive as a lot I checked into when I moved down here, but I have seen some less expensive than me, too. I have five kids of my own, so I cannot 'afford' to work outside of the home. Doing daycare fits in closely with my desire to teach. Centers will charge over $3.00 an hour. It's just my opinion, but I would find a smaller inhome daycare for a newborn. You get a lot more hands-on attention and hopefully less spread of illness. Just make sure your prospective caregiver washes her hands a LOT and the toys are sanitized. It's so tough keeping them healthy when they are little! You can also have your provider background checked by the local police department for a small fee and I think it's worth it. I wish you lots of luck and hope you find the perfect match to your new family!

I'm a nanny and it really varies. If you want the nanny to care for your newborn and do no other chores $10-$12/ hour is fair. If she drives anywhere you can expect to reimburse her gas mileage (or let her use your car). Since she's full time, you should offer some sort of paid vacation.... paid holidays plus 5-10 vacation days. Also, she may ask for you to pay some amount towards her health care (we usually buy independent health insurance.)
If you are asking her to do cleaning while the baby sleeps, run errands or other chores expect to pay a little more.
If you can't pay that amount, think of unique perks you can offer her. (Can she do laundry at your house, belong to your health club or country club or have flexibility with hours- like Friday afternoons off?)

We've had a nanny coming to our house 30 hrs a week for our son who is now 17 months old, though to make it more economical, we've done a nanny-share with a neighbor who alos has a similarly aged child (we split the cost). We're paying 12.50 per hour which I think is pretty typical. (range $10-15). congrats on your baby and hope you find someone good! there are nanny placement services also..

For a nanny to watch your child, it's about $300 and up. A friend of mine has had Au Paires (not sure on the spelling)
for her twins, that might be another option for you.

We paid a home daycare $30. for all day. If it was not going to be all day she charged $4. per hr up to 4 hrs. we have a new baby now in addition to our toddler so she dropped the rate to $20. per child.
