What Size Washing Machine to Get?

Iam moving and will need to purchase a washer and a dryer. It is only my daughter (18 mo) and myself. I don't have room for a huge unit, but I do want a front loading washer. With it just being us 2 what is a good size washer for us. I am looking at something around the 3 cubic feet size. Is that two small, and cause me to be doing laundry 24/7? I dont have an excessive amount of clothes (mainly scrubs), but I do have normal stuff ie: towels and comforters and blankets. Please help.

What can I do next?

keep in mind that as long as you get a he (high efficient) machine, it will only use the least amount of water needed to wash your clothes. I'd go for bigger (as long as it's "he" and you have space for it). I really don't know however much about the cubic feet though.... just get "he"... it is worth it.

*** I have not noticed difference in price with he detergents... I use much less of it... so I think it equals itself out.

This is the way I look at it. It's just the 2 of you, so how often are you going to be doing an extra large load of laundry. Go for a smaller one.

When you do need to wash the big comforter, just take it to the laundry mat. I know that can be a pain, but every spring I gather up all the comforters, drag them to the laundromat, and then bring them home and hang them out to dry. It's less time and effort that washing each one individually.

Just an FYI... when I got my high efficiency washer (Maytag Bravos, love it), I had a little sticker shock when I went to buy "he" laundry detergent. It is more expensive!! Start clipping coupons!

I agree with the stackables, that is a good suggestion. Good luck!

Personally, I'd go for the biggest machine I could get. Yes, for right now it's just you and one small child -- but hopefully this purchase will last you a good 15 years or more. No one's clothes ever get smaller! Plus, the larger the washer, the less often you have to use it. I'd rather do one good-sized load than a few small ones.
Someone mentioned a cost difference in the HE detergent. I hadn't noticed much of a difference, myself (maybe that's a regional thing?). I find that I use less of it (LOVE my Whirlpool machine!) and I stock up when it's on sale.

Good luck!

I have the front loading regular sized Whirlpool washer/dryer that we got about 6-7 years ago, I think. We are a family of 6, so I definitely need something with capacity. I can put any of our comforters in it and although it's pretty stuffed in there, I think it works pretty good. If we had the room, I'd love to have stackables upstairs, to help with having to haul loads and baskets of laundry up three levels. Anyway, I would think the stackables would be just fine for you and your daughter. I don't know about the conforters, because my washer/dryer is barely big enough. But, I don't know that I'd get the bigger ones JUST for the convenience of doing comforters, rather than having to take them to the laundrymat.

The bigger the better. As she grows you will find that laundry increases and you will be doing laundry every day, and several loads. You can always select a smaller load setting.

I loved my Asko front loader. It used minimal water and had it's own hot water heater inside it. The dryer plugged in to it and they worked fine for smaller families. The 1200 RPM spin at the end really helped.

i would get the biggest one you can. you can always opt for a smaller load on the rare occasion you dont have other stuff to throw in. i feel like i spend half my life doing laundry.
