Just doing a tune up on my physical health since my kids are in camp and I actually have time to focus on me. I am interested in knowing what other women are taking. Obviously most women need extra calcium for bones, Flax if they need Omega's, etc etc. Do any of you drink a protein shake just because they are not getting enough protein? I have also heard about a drink shakeology...I know there's alot out there some good some not so good. I thought by hearing (reading) what other moms are using it will help me. I am sure some of you are menopausal so there might be supplements some of you are taking for that. Us moms just go through so much as we care for children and age ourselves. I hope we are all trying to take care of ourselves as much as we do for our little ones......looking forward to your answer, I am sure we can all learn from each other. Have a great day!

What can I do next?

I take prenatal vitamins because I'm breastfeeding. They give me energy. I try to get everything else in my food. I have a pretty good diet, and I take special care to drink lots of water so I don't get dehydrated.

I don't take any supplements at all. I do eat lots of vegetables such as kale, swiss chard, broccoli, carrots, salad, zuchini, tomatoes and a variety of fruit and berries. I eat yogurt with fruit for breakfast a few times a week, fish or seafood for dinner 1 -2 times a week and cook vegetarian food the rest of the time. I'm a strong believer in getting nutrients through food. Vegetables and fruit have micronutriens that supplements don't have.

I want to just share that recent studies (over LONG terms) have shown that extra calcium does not prevent osteoporosis and other things that it claims to unless you are over 65 and on an extremely high dosage.

I honestly think the best thing you can do for your body is to eat sensibly, drink lots of water, and get a moderate amount of exercise. These things will ensure you have the proper balance of nutrients, unless you have an underlying condition. I really don't believe in taking extra supplements, vitamins, and minerals and tend to steer clear of "fortified" foods because foods naturally have the proper amounts of these things. God did, after all, design this world.

So to answer...I don't take any and that's why. :) Not trying to be snarky, but this is something I feel strongly about!! :)

Hey there!
How nice that you have some time to focus on yourself. I moved to europe a while ago, and realiye that women do not need supplements. The German FDA suggests eating some cheese and drinking some mild every day to cover calcium. Making calcium tablets is cheap and therefore a huge business. It´s easy to gt enough calcium in your diet, and always healthier to get it from natural sources. Same with pretty much any vitamins. Many governments here in Europe DO NOT endorse this Vitamin business. Vitamins can never give you what food does. Studies in Skandinavia have shown that people who take a daily multivitamin have a life -expectancy of 5 years less than those who get their vitamins from food only. Also, people do not suffer from a lack of vitamins in the west. Too much fat and sugar are a problem, but we usually get all we need if we eat alright.
I understand though that you want to to something special to make yourself extra-healthy. How about reading about coconut oil and apple cider vinegar? Those are natural products that can really boost your health.
Have fun!
P.S.: I also had my blood checked here when I was pregnant and told not to take anything, not even iron, because the values were perfect!

I take a multi-vitamin, D, and B12. D for obvious reasons - I'm sure you've heard all the information on this. For me B12 was recommended by my neurologist for nerve health.

I'm going to talk to my doctor about taking a baby asprin, because I've heard it reduces your risk of colon cancer and that's a concern in my family.

Vitamin E - it's good for a lot of things and I just feel better taking it than I do if I don't.
Cranberry extract - I'm prone to bladder infections and this keeps me from getting them.
Glucosamine - keeps my joints pain free.
Biotin, horsetail supplement(silica source) and 1 tablespoon black strap molasses (sulfur source) - for hair and nails.
B12 - if I'm feeling a cold coming on or feeling sluggish
Milk thistle extract - liver support.
Melotonin and L-ornithine - if I have trouble sleeping.

I eat pretty healthy because I also believe in getting most of my nutrients from food. I eat a lot of fruits & vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains. I try to stay away from processed foods. For optimal health, I also exercise and take quality supplements:
a multivitamin called LifePak Nano
MarineOmegas (krill oil)
ageLOC Vitality - a natural supplement that gives me natural energy during the day & restful deep sleep at night

I'm in my 40s and I feel like I'm in my 20s!
And I haven't been sick in the four years I've been supplementing.
So grateful!

I take a line called Isotonix. I love it. It's a powder that when mixed with water becomes the same pressure as your blood, sweat and tears. It's absorbed immediately. I feel such a difference from when I was taking pills. I started on the site taking a survey that told me what I needed to take. Then I actually got something called a Gene SNP done where I swabbed the inside of my mouth and had them make a custom formula based on what my body really needed. It's the best thing ever.
One supplement I noticed a HUGE difference with was OPC3. I have more energy and just feel great. I never get sick as long as I take it.

Here's the site if you want to check it out. Let me know if you want more information. The survey is called a Nurta Physical and it's on the far right hand side very bottom of page.

Stay Healthy.
