Did this start right after vaccinations? Just a thought. I've heard of kids who were fine and then after their shots they were not. I would get her to the Dr.
I have a 21 month old girl. She knew over 100 words and about two months ago she stopped talking. She says some words occasionally. Sometimes she will not respond to her name. She also will not wave hi or bye-bye anymore. She will not make eye contact with anyone except for me occasionally. A lot of times she seems to be in her own world. What's going on? We have seen a pediatrician and is starting birth to 3.

Just wanted to mention, in response to the suggestion that vaccination may cause autism: just because two things happen at approximately the same time, DOES NOT mean one caused the other. Unfortunately, we don't know what causes autism, and it's important to keep researching potential causes, but it's uninformed to observe a temporal relationship and assume it's causal. For example, if you have an accident while wearing a new purple shirt, you shouldn't assume the new shirt caused the accident...
Their are many many things that could be going on wth your daughter. My best suggestion would be to take her to a pediatrician and have them refer her to a Neurologist.
To me it sounds like it could be anywhere from an ear infection (could be why shes not making as much eye contact, not responding to her name), to autism, azbergers ( i think thats how you spell it), or a neurological disorder. I could go on and go on. But then again, Im not a doctor.
To give you some peace of mind, as long as she is still able to walk and her motor skills are still relatively normal those are very good signs.
Talk to your pediatrician. Don't wait. It will put more stress on you when it really could be nothing.Good Luck!
My son acted that same way when he would get ear infections. I would definatley make an appointment with her doctor. Try not to freak out until you see the doctor. Hope everything turns out okay : ).
Hi J.,
My first thought was she might be losing her hearing. Autism is another thing that popped into my mind. You say you are "starting birth to 3" but I don't know what that means....
Did anything change recently? bad cold or flu before this happenened? chnage in diet? grief situation? a move? new caregiver?
There is a specialist called a "developmental pediatrician", I believe I first heard about them on this site. I would consult one of those, especially if you don't get anywhere with your current ped.
Good luck!

I would take your daughter to her pediatrician to rule out any medical problems. If there are none, I would immediately make an appointment with a developmental pediatrician, neurologist or child psychologist....all of them can screen and diagnose autism.
Good Luck!
I would have her checked for autism. Talk to your pediatrician about seeing a child developmental specialist. If there's nothing wrong, great! If she is on the autism spectrum, you've caught it early and there are many ways to help her. But definitely get her checked out ASAP. Good luck!
Sounds like text book Autism. Go to another doctor and get her evaluated.
First of all let me say I'm sorry that you're going thru this as it must be VERY scary for you.
1) Get her hearing checked as this is very easy to do and you'll have a definite answer right away.
2) The symptoms (esp. the loss of eye contact) does sound like autism. Early intervention is IMPERATIVE for your child (if she does have this) to succeed in life. My neighbor was ALL over one of her children (18 mos) when she saw similar sighs and you wouldn't know he had anything wrong w/him today (10 YO). She mentioned to a mother he went to pre-school with that she saw the same indicators in her child and that parent didn't want to hear anything about Autism. That child is in school today w/ her son and is WAY behind the curve - to the point that she has to have an aid sit w/ her in class.
Obviously every child is different but the ONE thing people agree upon re: Autism is that the earlier the intervention takes place the higher rate of being able to mainstream your child.
3) research diet/Autism links - again an easy thing for YOU to execute - and no matter waht your child has eating like they recommend is very healthy (no dyes, etc) so it's a win no matter what your daughter's diagnosis is.
Good luck.
Your child is exhibiting all the classic symptoms of autism. Early intervention is important. Get your child to the doctor as soon as you can. My best friend's son had all the same symptoms and is doing much better now. They caught it fairly early. Not trying to scare you but I woulld go to the doctor sooner rather than later. If she doesn't have it, great! If she does, better to start help now. Hope I'm wrong.
This is going to sound weird, but does she have a yeast infection or thrush? (Many times, a yeast infection on babies/toddlers can look just like a diaper rash--red little bumps). This happened when my son was a little under a year old. He went from being a social, babbling boy to having the same symptoms you've described. At the same time, he developed thrush AND a yeast rash on his bottom. Nystatin and Gentian Violet (typical topicals) didn't work, so the ped gave him Diflucan, which is a systemic anti-fungal. Sure enough, his bodily yeast overgrowth went away, and he returned to normal. I thought it was all a conincedence, but when I did a little research, I learned that antifungals are used to treat some of the symptoms in diagnosed Autism patients, and that many times spectrum disorder sufferers HAVE yeast overgrowths. I'm not a doc so I don't want to "e-diagnose" your daughter, but I thought I'd mention it since it's such a wacky thing to think about. Good luck!
Yeeks, this definitely sounds like something from the Autism spectrum! Let us know how it pans out with your special little baby girl....
the 2 that popped in my head was fluidon ears or autism. if doc aint worried get her to a second opinion doc
Have her tested for autisim. My granddaughter is autistic and her early symtoms were similar to your daughter's.
Get her to a doctor asap just to weed out any medical problems.
It could be "selective mutism." Which is self-imposed mute.
Here's a link about it:

Or, has she been in any kind of trauma recently? Has anyone hurt her? Any changes in her life recently?
All the best,
Susan
In addition to going to your doctor immediately, I would also recommend going to an experienced Homeopath. I know of several cases where a child has rapidly exhibited the type of autism-like symptoms you are describing, who have been dramatically, noticeably helped by a good homeopath. The treatments are not invasive or harmful at all, however it can take several different remedies to find the right one for the child. Best of luck and let us know how it goes.
Dear J.,
I feel for you, like you have no idea, She probably has autism, the exact same thing happened to my baby. He actually has PDD-NOS, which is under the umbrella of autism. Don't delay, talk to your doctor, and have her tested. Early intervention is important, good luck, I'm fighting the same battle you are, hang in there!!!
Was she sick when she got her recent vaccines or on any antibiotics?
MY son did this but at 8 months. We went to the pediatrician when he was 15 months old and found out he wasn't passing hearing tests. He never had an ear infection so we just watched him. Come to find out after having tubes put in and still failing (he passed a month later) he hadn't heard a thing in almost a year...Now he is doing great and his vocabulary is growing. Definitely have the ears checked out by an ENT. If that doesn't seem to work then you can bring in your state's early intervention to do an assessment.
